This postcard was created for a FotoFest exhibition titled Mechanical Perception featuring photographic work by Mei-Mei Dillard, Eileen Maxson, Brian Piana, Soody Sharifi and Anderson Wrangle. These artists are also alumni from the University of Houston Photo/Digital Media program hence the lineup for this show. Mechanical Perception exhibition runs from September 5 – October 12, 2008 at the FotoFest Headquarters.
In addition to a postcard for the event, I also had to screenprint a poster that would be sold and distributed at the show through FotoFest. This was one of my first poster outside the usual Nameless Sound or rock music poster; this being one for a local art space. This was also the first poster that I created my new studio space, Box 13 ArtSpace.
This is the print sheet just hours returning from a press check Simon Printing where these postcards were being printed. This is the final product that I approved just before the entire job is run and then trimmed.

The doors of perception or gateway to heaven or hell? Hehe, Aldous Huxley aside, it's another part of the Red Cliff Pinetree ruin. This was part of a passageway to an old radar dome. You know, the early warning devices which were supposed to protect us from nuclear anihilation by Soviet bombers during the 50's and 60's?

I better be careful or I may end up in a "Commute" series. I love how simple this is. I took it in the morning thinking of and inspired by a minimalistic series a friend of mine is doing instagram.
But I never thought I would like it enough to make it picture of the day. Everything we see is matter of perception. This picture is hyper real but I imagine it printed on metal and shiny.
It is not what you get in life is how you deal with it. For me today is a wonderful opportunity to re invent myself and make it a good day.
Wait why this optimism?

New Orleans-based community organizer and human rights advocate Stephen Bradberry met representatives of several states at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations on May 11 for an informal discussion of human rights, the environment, and climate change. He described climate change as a “frightening reality,” but one that is not reaching everyday people. Bradberry, who was awarded the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Award for his work on behalf of victims of Hurricane Katrina, said that understanding international human rights mechanisms and treaties can help bolster grassroots work. He noted that many people in the United States and elsewhere incorrectly think “human rights” is about other countries, and not relevant to their own lives. That perception needs to change, Bradberry said. He described how the Universal Declaration of Human Rights gave him greater confidence in seeking redress for social issues that arose on the U.S. Gulf Coast in the aftermath of Katrina. Mr. Bradberry’s visit to Geneva was organized by the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Foundation Switzerland.
On 20 August Bristol, England played host to the most ambitious permanent street art project ever to take place in the UK, called 'See No Evil'. The event has now resulted in Bristol's Nelson Street becoming one of the world's largest outdoor art exhibitions.
The world’s leading street artists painted the facades of ten multi-storey Bristol buildings along Nelson Street in Bristol City Centre as part of ‘See No Evil’. Visitors attended a weekend full of fun during this historic event that took place the weekend of 20 August 2011.
Event organisers hope that the street art will mirror the success of Melbourne, Australia's street art initiative which attracts an estimates 450,000 visitors per year.
Bristol has long been known for its street art movement in the UK, being the home to a host of famous artists and now ‘See No Evil’. The biggest names in international street art participated in the Nelson Street art project, a city centre area in need of regeneration.
Ten huge buildings were painted over six days, transforming this area into an inspiring masterpiece and a legacy for the city.
Organisers welcomed famous artists such as New York based muralists, Tats Cru whose aerosol based work is dubbed to have ‘changed the perception of graffiti as art’ and LA artist El Mac whose work is prolific across every continent.
These graffiti legends joined artists from Holland, Spain, Brazil and the UK, each bringing their completely unique styles to Bristol.
The initiative is a collaboration between street artist Inkie, who emerged out of Bristol’s 80’s graffiti scene alongside Banksy and Bristol music promoters Team Love and is in association with Bristol City Council’s place making director, Mike Bennett.
This permanent artwork is available for visitors to view at their leisure during a visit to Bristol.
