It is the eye of ignorance that assigns a fixed and unchangeable color to every object; beware of this stumbling block.

365 2009 Day 241: This shot, snapped in haste at the end of a busy day, is quite attention-grabbing; of course it is designed to be so.
The rear end of emergency and maintenance vehicles is often fitted with what is referred to as a 'conspicuity enhancer' - plain speak: something that makes it easier to see and reduces the risk of accident when stationary on the highway.
Strange as it may seem, this is not an entirely successful safeguard against a rear-end shunt. That it is intrinsically highly visible is not enough to ensure that it will be consciously perceived.
Several factors are involved: 1) driving is a familiar task, and we are often on 'auto-pilot', 2) the rear end of the vehicle in front is a familiar thing, even if brightly decorated, 3) we expect it to be moving.
Research suggests that if this conspicuity-enhancing design is placed along the side of the vehicle parked at an angle or sideways on, it is much more likely to register in drivers' attention as a hazard because it is less familiar.
I wonder if I should tell the driver of this vehicle ... maybe not.

Wall and ceiling lamp with two thermoformed diffusers in opal and transparent or transparently coloured Plexiglas, fixed on a metal coated structure with chrome-plated details.
Fancy lamp of organic and unpredictable shape, standing out for the optical effect created by the overlapping of the two diffusers, that changes the perception of its shape according to the observer’s point of view. From this effects comes its emblematical name referring to the morphing technique used in animation movie-making.
