Sunflowers for Vincent van Gogh - Ocubo

Une mer de tournesols, se balancant au gre du vent.

For a moment you feel as if you were looking at a painting by Vincent van Gogh. As you come closer, you will see that these are lanterns made according to Chinese traditions. This luminous work of art is a tribute to the painter who, during his stay in Arles, France, painted 69 sunflowers, and regarded those sunflowers as lanterns.

Developed in 2019 for GLOW Eindhoven, the work was also exhibited at the Qinhuai International Lantern Festival 2020 in Nanjing. It was there that the work was constructed under the direction of Gu Yeliang, a famous artist known for his lanterns. The work was created in collaboration with the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam and Van Gogh Brabant. The sunflowers are currently owned by the OCUBO studio, which specialises in light and cultural projects in public spaces.

Four evenings and three routes will take you on a journey to discover of some twenty immersive and poetic artistic works. From 10 to 13 February, the Royal Quarter, the European Quarter and the Flagey neighborhood will be illuminated by enchanting light installations. The festival will also feature a fringe programme, including evening events in the museums.

Pen sketch of Morro Rock from Cayucos Beach on a very chilly and windy May afternoon.

Continuing with my travels, I was finding it difficult to stop drawing this morning, as I relaxed after breakfast in this amazing place, which nestles near the 'Brecon Beacons, South Wales.

However, Minka, (can you see her outside the window?), has now come in and claimed her favourite armchair while I was upstairs answering a booking enquiry, so I am prevented from finishing this drawing. Perhaps it's just as well, however, as I was in danger of getting completely carried away, trying to include everything: the fire crackling away in the stove; sumptuous curtains pushed behind cascades of booksand magazines; birds; squirrels; and not of course forgetting the ducks , who have come up from the canal at the bottom of the garden to feast on the generous offerings put out for them .

Never mind - I'll look forward to drawing something else tomorrow, and meanwhile apply myself to something I should really be doing!

Drawing is everything, of course, as it sharpens the perception and hones technique.

(2019) All Seeing Ai / 愛

Hanging out at a Starbucks and listened to a Youtube clip about 5G and the foreseeable future of AI, ended up doodling an alternate design of the all seeing eye, encasing in a heart and all seeing with love.

Added some electricity also for a funny meme in Taiwan, “let’s generate electricity with love!” (用愛發電!❤️⚡️)

Funny thing is after I was done, I found out that I unwittingly left a print of the art on the coffee table, thus took some pictures to share here. Sorry, Starbucks.

Ballpoint Pen Drawings are a form of art that consist of the usage of a ballpoint pen in a way similar to an average pencil except that the results are more permanent. The medium itself is considered to be easier to purchase when compared to other artistic materials. It is also a tool that any level of artist can use. Unlike other pens such as a fountain pen or crowquill pen the ink is less messy and does not bleed as much. The ink is instead distribute through the small ball at the tip of the pen which helps manage ink distribution more without difficulty. There are many intricate pictures produced by shading and the creating of many tones through techniques that are very similar to a pencil drawing. Not only is black ballpoint pen ink being used, various color inks have been as well. Subject matters for this type of art consist of portraits, sketches, still-life's, landscapes, abstracts and ect. The most prolific ballpoint pen artist, publisher, video producer and information provider Jerry Stith,[1] is known for pushing in the whole new movement of using ballpoint pens as a medium for illustrating and drawing period. He has produced 3,750 of his own art pieces using this medium and is still continuing as of 2011. The movement itself has been going on for some time and is picking up speed even now. Thanks to his enthusiasm in this new form of art many amazing artist such as Babis Kiliaris, Juan F. Casas, Virginia Rodriguez Cañete, Andrey Hrenov and Shirish Deshpande [2] have appeared in the art world. Not only are the many artworks created with this medium made for just amusement they are being placed in exhibits such as the one by the Korean artist Il Lee, who will display his abstract drawings at The Crow Collection of Asian Art located in Dallas, Texas on April 8, 2011.[3]

i drew this about aweek ago in just black fineliner, then this weekend i went to the big smoke and happiliy went to various Muji stores on a hunt for nice colours in the 0.38 series! i found a nice blu and purple which i thought would brighten up this drawing? i think it did. o and once i was using the blu and purple i kinda physically couldnt resist the orange :)
