Architect: Ned Sawyer

Year: 1981

Ned Sawyer designed this home in 1981 for Dr. Dubrow and his artistic wife, Gail. The H-shaped plan features a central atrium and was designed around mature trees already on the vacant site. Careful placement of glass minimizes solar heat gain while maximizing privacy. The triangular conversation pit is a big attraction at parties. The large studio with greenhouse-style northern light is any artist’s dream. The home is now owned by an architect/artist couple. Improvements include a new deck and art in the atrium. The home features art by Nancy Pendleton, Alan Hochman, Otto Rigan, Gary Slatter, Sherri Belassen, Frank Iberra, Many Ann Kalinsky, Joe Ray and James Cook.

In the U.S. state of Oregon, Interstate 84, also known as the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Highway, travels east–west, following the Columbia River and the rough path of the old Oregon Trail from Portland east to Idaho. For this reason, it is also known as most of the Columbia River Highway No. 2 and all of the Old Oregon Trail Highway No. 6 (see Oregon highways and routes). It also follows along or near U.S. Route 30. The entire highway carried the designation I-80N (or I-80 North) until 1980, when this was changed to I-84.

Interstate 84 begins in Portland, Oregon where it connects with Interstate 5 on the east side of the Willamette River. It continues east, crossing Interstate 205, before curving to the north to join the Columbia River. It continues along the river, passing Interstate 82 in Hermiston, and US 395 in Pendleton. It then curves to the south, until it gets to the Idaho border. It continues into Idaho.

The Cabbage Hill grade east of Pendleton is a 6% grade, with several hairpin curves in both directions and a separation between directions of almost 2 miles (3 km).

My sister asked for a Pendleton blanket for Christmas this year, and even got to pick which one she wanted. Here she is wrapped up in her new gift. Clearly very happy!

My sister asked for a Pendleton blanket for Christmas this year, and even got to pick which one she wanted. Pendleton blankets are made by the Pendleton Woolen Mills in Pendleton, Oregon. They are VERY nice wool blankets with beautiful Native American designs on them. The design on this one is adapted from the "White Raven's Moonlit Flight" painting done by Haida artist April White. According to Haida legend, through his powers as the Transformer and Trickster, Raven disguised himself and stole the Moon from the Sky Chief for humankind in exchange for his fill of fish.

Navy Capt. Shelley Perkins, commanding officer of Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton listens to questions asked by the media in todays Media Roundtable discussing Naval Medical Center San Diego and Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton receiving the COVID-19 Vaccine.

The first doses of Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine arrived at Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD), with distribution being conducted in phases, Dec. 14. NMCSD and Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton (NHCP) were selected by the DOD's COVID Task Force based on recommendations from the military services and U.S. Coast Guard, to best support several criteria to include anticipated supply chain requirements, such as cold and bulk storage facilities; local population of at least 1,000 priority personnel across the military services; and sufficient medical personnel to administer vaccines and actively monitor vaccine recipients.

Sleeves removed, slimmed and shortened. Sides torn out and taken in about 2 inches total on each side. Sides of pockets and pocket flaps torn out and re-sewn. The jacket has no lining, which makes for a much simpler job. Also, the wool is so thick and strong that taking out old seams or mistakes is pretty easy.

Carnegie Library (1915)

This is the old Woodward High School in Cincinnati's Pendleton neighborhood. The Renaissance Revival-style building was constructed in 1907-10, with US President William Howard Taft, who graduated from the school in 1874, laying the cornerstone for the building. Woodward High School is the oldest high school in the city, and was the first major public school in the city, opening in 1831 on land donated by William and Abigail Cutter Woodward, who are buried on the property. The original two-story building lasted from 1831 until 1855, when it was replaced with a large Gothic structure, which in turn made way for this building in 1907. Woodward High School at the time was one of the most modern high school facilities in the world, with 150 rooms that included two indoor pools, flush toilet facilities, central heating, a large centrally-located auditorium, and a gymnasium within the walls of the structure. However, the building became increasingly unsuited and constrained for modern high school needs by the time World War II was over, and the high school departed for a new facility in Bond Hill in 1953, which has since been replaced with a new building. The old building then served as Abigail Cutter Junior High School from 1953 until 1977, when the School of the Creative and Performing Arts took over the building, remaining in it until 2010, when a new building was constructed near Music Hall on one side of Washington Park. The building was then vacant until very recently, when it was converted by Core Redevelopment into the Alumni Lofts, very well detailed apartments that are located in close proximity to Downtown, the Pendleton Arts District, Ziegler Park, and Over-the-Rhine.
