Shot of the old PeeGee Hydrangea in the back corner of our property. The tree came with the property and likely dates back to the days when an outhouse was marked on the town map, over 100 years ago in a spot just feet from where this lovely plant stands today.
Shot with the new Tamron wide open, it's difficult to tell the flowers from the boken.

English common names: PeeGee hydrangea, Panicled hydrangea.
Deciduous shrub which grows to a height of 2m and a width of 2m.
Native to southern and eastern China, Korea, Japan, and Sakhalin.
Cultivated in temperate (cold) climate countries including Australia.
Photographed wild in Sakhalin, where it is common in the forest.
Hydrangea paniculata 'ZINFIN DOLL' WW35 Panicle J2- (Wood, 2016) Panicle Hydrangea, Mature plant size: 7ft., Pink, USDA Hardiness Zone 3-8, Michigan Bloom Month 7c, In Garden Bed J2 for 5.3 YEARS (Bluestone). Planted in 2017.
Hydrangea paniculata Zinfin Doll® 'SMNHPRZEP' (PP26956, 2016) was developed by Timothy Wood, MI. Selected from an open-pollination of seed parent Hydrangea paniculata 'Little Lamb'. Dense bi-colored blooms emerge white then transition to hot pink to red. Upward-facing blooms on strong stems. Soil acidity does not affect bloom color. A Proven Winners® selection. Good growth in 2 years time. Great fall colors.
2020 note: About 3 feet tall and wide after 3 years in the ground. Needs to be bottom trimmed to be more vase shaped (my preference). Soil in this garden is on the clay side. Seed parent is Little Lamb, which I had but did not survive. Like most of my panicle hydranges, it starts out white and turn pink or red or both. I will probably keep this at a 3-4 foot height.

Monrovia: A gorgeous new panicle hydrangea, on a much more compact form. Sturdy stems support big, full flower heads that start out white and mature to a delectable pink. The long-lasting blooms are superb in fresh or dried arrangements. A summer show-stopper for containers, or use as a foundation shrub in smaller gardens. Deciduous. Spring Meadow Nursery, Inc.
2020 Note: Bloomed in mid JUly (white), blooms fading to brown mid August. Many of my other panicle hydrangeas opened later and are still white. Nice compact mounded ball of flowers.

First Editions: With a commanding presence in the summer and fall garden, White Diamonds® is an exceptional compact hydrangea with glistening white, upright panicles that eventually fade to lovely parchment and pink colors for dried arrangements. Smaller and more manageable than most H. paniculata, White Diamonds boasts dark green leathery foliage that displays increased heat and drought tolerance. Use as an anchor in the mixed border, plant as a hedge or in a large grouping for a magnificent effect.
