Not much left of Fort Pearce these days. Actually, this is a recant addition. The actual fort is on the hill behind me.

"Fort Pearce was built by the Mormon Colonists during the Black Hawk war of 1865-72, a period of conflict between Ute and Navajo Indians and the settlers. This location was selected to block the use of the springs below by hostile Indians. Originally, the walls of the fort were about 8 feet high. The structure was never roofed."

I think he's extremely underutilized. Doesn't get enough work.
He was asked if making Memento was difficult. Mr. Pearce said "I don't remember." Brilliant
We'd planned on leaving Emry with a sitter while Eric, Pearce & I tubed down this river about 45 minutes outside of Greymouth. But I got the flu. Upon returning from the outing, Eric told me I got the better end of the deal. Apparently the river was about 3 inches deep, the glowworm cave was a tiny mining tunnel, it was freezing, and the equipment for Pearce was for someone twice his size (and had huge holes so the icy water poured in). Eric said he ended up carrying a 100 lb Pearce for about 2 miles because the little guy couldn't walk because his waders would slide down so his feet were at the knee area. But Pearce was a trooper and never complained once. Just gritted his chattering teeth and endured it. Oh well. Two weeks of doing things, and only one stinker.
