It's been wonderful to see so many overwintering butterflies tempted out by the warm sunshine this week.
I love the raggedy edges of the comma butterfly, and the bright white mark on its underwing which gives it its name.

After a busy spring and early summer, a mallard takes a break in the early morning sun. His family has made it through a vulnerable time as they are now learning adult survival skills for the rest of their short lives that will include long flights and dodging the shots of hunters.
