For fit reasons my basic skirt is a mix of drafting instructions from both DIY Clothes and Building Patterns

 
take one of the cut legs, and place near your serger making sure the crotch is going to be easily picked up. Dont fiddle with it, or pin, no need for pins here if we leave the fabric how it was cut the fabric should sit together nicely as we serge :) by little gumnut

Side buttons on Rosie Skirt by sewmodest

I messed a little as you can see.. The needle I was using for the topstitching was not able to make the buttonholes and so it chewed my fabric with zigzag stitches and once I got the piled thread off it left a very visible flaw on the side.
