My college patternmaking textbook, bodice slopers, and Cal Patch's new book.

last night, after a particularly annoying day at work, I did a little patternmaking therapy and wig experimentation.

I came up with a decent pattern for a t-shirt, socks, and this little ruffle dress.

The wig is more "hacked" than "made" but it came out nice and snug, so I will probably do a tutorial in the future. it is really hard to find nice 3/4 wigs that are not too poofy.

She's wearing mame's shoes (made by Min Lee) which are too big for her but are the best I have at the moment. Plus she seems to really like sparkly things.

She'll get her face this weekend! Yay!

Class: Patternmaking

Date: Fridays in February 2/1, 2/8, 2/15, & 2/22 (4 weekly classes)

Time: 6:00-8:00 each class

Location: Etsy Labs, 325 Gold Street 6th Floor, Brooklyn, NY 11201.

Description:

If you love to sew, but are frustrated by the patterns you

find in stores, this is the class for you. Here you will learn the basic principles of flat patternmaking, and start having fun designing the clothes you picture in your mind! You will draft patterns for a t-shirt and an A-line skirt (like those in the photos above) based on your own measurements. Then we will manipulate these patterns into other style variations. We will also cover how to 'rub off' a pattern from a pre-existing garment. Basic sewing experience is helpful to benefit from this class.

The Hopscotch Dress has always reminded me of a Tea Collection dress. For Ruby's dress, I wanted to make the sleeves look a bit more "Tea-ish" so I drafted a "saucer" cap sleeve using my copy of "Patternmaking for Fashion Design." I used a rolled hem on the edge of the short sleeve and just used the regular long sleeve pattern. I basted them together before I set them. The gray fabric is interlock from JoAnn's and the aqua fabric is from the softest T-shirt from Target that I paid $3 for. Great color, not so great fit. :)
