Marie in the kitchen with crackers and olives for the Macro Mondays "snack" theme.

If you're missing Valeria and her friend - yes they made a picture, but that's a bit too salty for this group, I'll add a link in the first comment.

Marie helping in the kitchen, making pizza.

This is a small, four sided grater, just as the big ones, only in miniature size. We use it for curcuma (hence the yellow stains), ginger, and garlic, Marie used it for the cheese.

These 2 are part of the decor for Christmas, this year my son put out only few.

It has been a tradition in my family to bake cookies for Advent and Christmas since forever - the recipes are older than me.

And it is nearly a tradition for me, to post badly lit pictures of Marie in the kitchen, helping me at it during Advent.

Braaains!

Yes, you have all the brains you need to chop the chocolate. Please don't ruin the table, we have enough dents already.

J'ai terminé la réalisation de mon studio pour photos culinaires.

Aujourd'hui je vous présente des crèmes à l’orange de Menton, pâtisserie faite maison.

Un pur délice à déguster et aussi à prendre en photo.

This has been a tradition in my family since long before I was born, baking your special biscuits in the advent time.

And it's a, much shorter, tradition on my stream to show pictures of Marie helping me with the baking.

Oh, and a cheesecake, because it's no weekend without cake!

For Macro Mondays breakfast theme: Marie with a breadroll, fresh from the oven, with a slice of danish pålægschkolade (put-on-top chocolate) - you see a crumb peeping up right by her coffee cup.

We went to a Hofladen (farm shop) the other day and bought Zwetschgen (plums) for a plum cake. Marie brought another helper, the cutting zombie, who had to cut the plums in half and remove the stone. Here she is adding sugar and cinnamon prior to the baking.

You think I bake all these bread rolls myself? Think again and hand them over!

As I'm still invisible in the feed, I try to dump this in a few groups, but I don't expect to be visible there either. Flickr just sucks these days.

New York (2017)

I've shown a side view of the stove on day 4 of my Advent doors, but no good view from the front.

Two doors on the left with grey handels, the upper for feeding the wood, the lower with a small vent for the ashes. On the right side what we in German simply call the Röhre (tube) which is the baking oven.

This small piece with a waffle print was in last sunday's loot, and as we actually had waffles for the afternoon coffee, I could take this picture with Marie.

Toy Project Day 1324

Good morning, dear Flickr friends! I wanted to wish each and everyone mom - and woman who takes on the role of mom - a truly magnificent Mother's Day!

To help you celebrate this wonderful occasion, you're invited over for a piece of this charming croqembouche set (#6) from Re-Ment's Cakes on Parade series :)

These doughnuts are a new recipe for Marie and us. I've shown the Oliebollen a while ago, which were traditional on new years eve, and the Berliner Krapfen. But my mother never made anything with yeast. In the late 40s, early 50s, when she learned cooking, the yeast used then was very different to what we use today, (and kitchen were, too) and she never got the knack to get it going.

For one like me, who makes a yeast dough at least once a week for the breadrolls on Saturday (at the moment they are rising in the oven) this recipe is much simpler than anything else, and with Marie lending me a hand it was real fun.

Here's the recipe

What I like about this is a sentence in the introduction, how awfully difficult it is, to get a writeup from your mum or granny, because they don't work this way - they just do it.

And of course we improvised cooking this recipe. A yolk for the base and three whole eggs in the filling? Make that two and the white. Didn't have enough almonds - replaced a part of that with buckwheat (Buchweizen) to keep the nutty taste. The tarte was awesome, Marie did a really good job!

A danish recipe. Normally we fill them with cinnamon and sugar, this time with marzipan and raisins.

Give it a prod with the skewer and we're done. Stop complaining back there!

We got a handfull of red currants, and the best way to use them is in a cheesecake. We don't mind having cake every day :o)

The pastry chefs decided to do some promotion to boost sales at the bakery... Since lockdown, their business is not doing so great and they hope this will bring in more customers!

Would you like some pie?

Inspired by Lynn's pastry chef

Walking though the local Mount Olivet Cemetery last week, I noticed flowers at a grave marker. Fourteen Catholic victims of the sinking of the Titanic are buried here including Henri Jaillet, who was a pastry chef on the ship. Somebody had laid flowers and attached the two photos shown here in his memory.

The Titanic disaster is well known, sinking off the coast of Newfoundland on April 15, 1912. It was on its maiden voyage from Southampton to New York. Over 1,500 people perished at sea and only 328 bodies were recovered. They were transported to Halifax, Nova Scotia, where 150 are buried in various cemeteries
