A rainy day visit to the Holyhead Maritime Museum.

The museum is housed in an old lifeboat station that they have had since 1998.

The Holyhead Maritime Museum is a maritime museum located in Holyhead, North Wales.

Housed in what is claimed to be the oldest Lifeboat station in Wales (built c. 1858), it houses a number of collections.

The lifeboat station opened in 1858 and the first lifeboat was unnamed, launching 18 times, saving 128 persons. Replaced by the Prince of Wales, she launched 38 times and rescued 128 persons. In 1875, Member of Parliament Joshua Fielden and his brothers donated the Thomas Fielden, named after their father, which necessitated extending the house. In 1890, a second large boat was obtained, for which the house was extended to enable beach based landing from a horse-drawn carriage.

After local maritime exhibitions were held in 1982 and 1983 elsewhere, a trustees group was formed on 24 September 1984. The trustees obtained a nine-year lease on the redundant St Elbods church from the Church in Wales, with the museum opened officially by the Duke of Westminster in March 1986.

On expiration of the lease, and after failing to agree a lease within a new development, Stena Line offered the museum a peppercorn rent on the renovated Lifeboat house at Newry Beach. Deciding to improve the building through the construction of new visitor facilities, after a successful bid for funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund and a renegotiation of the lease to 99 years, the museum reopened on its current site in 1998.

The museum today tells the maritime history of Holyhead and Anglesey, from earliest days to the modern ferries to Ireland. It features an interactive combination of historical artifacts, models and sensory exhibitions. All of its part-time volunteers have extensive maritime and local knowledge. Accessible to wheelchairs, the museum has its own cafe, the Harbour Front Bistro.

The Holyhead at War exhibition is located in an air raid shelter located alongside the Maritime Museum.

So I took the leap and quit my job. A job that has been a Blessing and a curse for the last 11 plus years. On monday, I will be working in the field of Optometry. Its part time with less pay than the previous career. So it will be an adventure. It allows time to start sewing again and to go back to school to be an ophthalmologist.

I guess Im sharing cause the topic of being true, being “original” came up today.

As people we all struggle in life. I grew up in a household of all boys, the only asian in a all white community and school in Columbia, SouthCarolina. But Then I still struggled with identity and the definition of success as a Gay Asian Man in Corporate America.

We all have a point of view of being different; personal struggles; and Success stories. I think a lot of the hobby is kind of a catharsis from the crazy world. Like all artists, I put my heart and soul: the judgments, the criticisms, the challenges, the happy; the thoughts of family; the experiences of love and loss into everything I do.

And to be judged as an unoriginal unethical profiteer......discounts our work; our experiences; our lives.

“You are not original.” No one ever wants to hear those words from a boss, from a partner, from a friend.

To then, be forced to pick:

Who is right and wrong?

Who is the Winner and who Loses?

Who I should be friends with?

......its all just something...... Something I thought I left behind at my old job...something i left behind in High School.....in my Childhood.......in Columbia, South Carolina.

I guess no matter where you go, Home will always find you. It’s what you make of it; at the end of the day.

I prefer to remain open minded and non judgmental. That's the only way we can grow in friendships, in art, in love and in life.

Now i just have to remember What it’s like to be a Student :D

After graduation I continued to work at Albertson's part time while I attended Cosmetology School. When I graduated from there I went to Hawaii for 15 months and tried out my new vocation, plus had lots of fun. When I returned to Utah I went to work for Sperry Rand as an electrical assembler. After a 4 1/2 month courtship I married my husband, Glade Peterson, of Lehi. We have been married for 47 years. We had three children, Robert, Cheryl, and Janet. Life was forever changed, revolving around their activities, school and lessons. We enjoy family activities, camping and family dinners. We have 7 grandchildren who are the light of our lives. I enjoy gardening, quilting, crafts and flower arranging. I've been involved in PTA, from room mother to PTA president twice, District Parent Committee member, busing and calendaring. The Alpine School District is where I worked for 17 years. My church callings included Den Mother, Nursery leader, YW Pres., Relief Society Pres. and most everything in between. I also served in Stake positions from Sports to Drama. Now that we're retired we winter in Mesa, AZ where we don't have to shovel the Utah snow. While in AZ we serve at the church's Humanitarian Center. Life is good!
