Judging from the turnout of photographers on the Promenade in Brooklyn Heights tonight, just about every Flickreen in New York must have a shot along the same lines as this one, textured in more or fewer megapixels. You can't avoid taking it; it's mesmerizing and beautiful, and the night is perfect.
September 11th is one of the most difficult days of the year for many of us. Four years ago I stood in nearly exactly this spot and watched a gray cloud that completely obscured this entire view of Manhattan. The day was glorious, the weather benevolent. Both of the Twin Towers had already fallen.
Four years ago I stood here for close to three hours. In that entire stretch of time, no one spoke.

Summer, 2011: According to Flickr and Yahoo, this shot of mine is one of the top 7 photos out of all the billions of images hosted on this site. Which is wacky, but fun. Many news sources have identified it as the third most popular photo on Flickr.

The minimum number of traffic signals we have to go through to enter the Bruce Highway north out of Brisbane is four. One of them is controlled by this traffic signal box, only a couple of kilometres from us. Most traffic signal control boxes in Brisbane now have murals painted on them by locals with some local significance. On that basis though, the mural on the other side of snow capped peaks is about as far from reality as it gets.
I only noticed this one recently, because this set of traffic lights demands attention, often a bit wobbly and unpredictable! So I stopped this morning and took a shot, of course getting all sorts of gawks from motorists stopped at the lights. As usual, with a DSLR, you can be construed as a terrorist and demand that look, honking of horns......
It did strike me that perhaps artificial intelligence (AI) is operating in parallel universes, after all, this one’s characteristics remind me of another Explore. I have no idea of its local significance in reality, there are some natural environments nearby including the Tinchi Tamba Wetlands which do deserve a good Explore.
I set out to capture some buds on the side of our driveway as the rain started to fall, and this scene sort of materialised in the viewfinder and the shutter clicked...!
And in case you're wondering what it is, this is New Zealand Flax; I'll tell you about it one day!

I took this inside the O2 Dome (formerly the Millennium Dome) in London recently. It's basically a big advertising sign, where waves of colour flow up and along these spheres.
I was in London to visit some friends and also to see my prize-winning photo My Eyes on the Prize? in the Digital Camera Photographer of the Year 2007 exhibition at The Mall Galleries. Buckingham Palace is at the end of the road, and evidently Prince Charles and Prince Phillip pop in to the gallery on occasion, so maybe I'll be shooting some portraits by Royal appointment? ;-)
