The old Gummed Papers Ltd. factory near McMurchy Ave in Brampton. A longtime local business (and former customer on the CPR line, although not in the OBRY era), they went bankrupt in early 2008.

The 1913 vintage building was illegally demolished by the new property owner a few months after this photo in December 2008, when the city was studying designating it a heritage structure (a demolition permit had been issued but a hold placed on it pending results of the heritage assessment).

Day 22- I know, "more papers?!?!" you are saying...well, this is my itinerary for tomorrow morning for my orientation into the PhD program. Yes, 4 hours worth of getting to know you and things we will be covering for the next four years...huh, i didnt even think of that 4 years distilled into 4 hours...

I am fortunate that they gave me this b/c one of the other orientations i had at another school was so blaise it made me uncomfortable and glib...then again, i was 1700 miles from home and didnt know ANYBODY and felt like more of an outsider than usual...Anyway, not the best way to spend a Saturday, i know, but the benefits are quite useful.

I'm preparing an introduction speech right after i post this...that's the more difficult part for me is having to talk about myself in front of a group (weird, right but i dont actually see you all so thats different which is also quite weird...)

There most definitely was a human aspect to railroading at Rondout back in the day. Pretty sure that's what made it so special.
