The building is circular with a portico of large granite Corinthian columns (eight in the first rank and two groups of four behind) under a pediment. A rectangular vestibule links the porch to the rotunda, which is under a coffered concrete dome, with a central opening (oculus) to the sky. Almost two thousand years after it was built, the Pantheon's dome is still the world's largest unreinforced concrete dome. The height to the oculus and the diameter of the interior circle are the same, 43.3 metres (142 ft).
It is one of the best-preserved of all Roman buildings. It has been in continuous use throughout its history, and since the 7th century, the Pantheon has been used as a Roman Catholic church dedicated to "St. Mary and the Martyrs" but informally known as "Santa Maria della Rotonda." The square in front of the Pantheon is called Piazza della Rotonda

A rather fierce looking dolphin, one of four at the Fontana del Pantheon at Piazza della Rotonda. It is a 'copy', the original early 18th Century marble figures have been removed and are in a museum.
The Pantheon is in the background. Completed in 128 AD, it is the best preserved ancient Roman building and is still in use today. It has been a church dedicated to Sancta Maria ad Martyes (Saint Mary and the Martyrs) since 609 AD.
Rome; July 2019
The Pantheon is one of the best-preserved ancient roman buildings because it was converted to a church already in the early days. The impressive dome with its only window (oculus) is a greato photo motive.
The Pantheon is a building in Rome, commissioned by Marcus Agrippa as a temple to all the gods of Ancient Rome, and rebuilt by Emperor Hadrian in about 126 AD.

The dome was being maintained so I tried to avoid it.
The Panthéon was originally built as a church dedicated to St. Genevieve and to house the reliquary châsse containing her relics but now functions as a mausoleum for distinguished French citizens. Marie Curie is the only woman interred based on her own merits.
It was hard to believe that this incredible building, the Pantheon in Rome, Italy, was built nearly 2000 years ago. Emperor Hadrian designed the building in 125 A.D.

Inside the Pantheon in Rome. Sunlight through the permanently-open occulus is illuminating a patch of the dome. Exposure was kind of tricky, but the RAW capture had just enough shadow detail which was completely absent in the jpeg recording.
Pantheon duotone.

CM Aim. I wanted to convey a sense of classic, majestic Rome, despite the tourists, and in doing so, produce a different image from the standard tourist snap.
