The Pantheon (/ˈpænθiən/ or US /ˈpænθiɒn/; Latin: Pantheon,] from Greek Πάνθεον meaning "every god") is a building in Rome, Italy, on the site of an earlier building commissioned by Marcus Agrippa during the reign of Augustus (27 BC – 14 AD). The present building was completed by the emperor Hadrian and probably dedicated about 126 AD. He retained Agrippa's original inscription, which has confused its date of construction.

The building is circular with a portico of large granite Corinthian columns (eight in the first rank and two groups of four behind) under a pediment. A rectangular vestibule links the porch to the rotunda, which is under a coffered concrete dome, with a central opening (oculus) to the sky. Almost two thousand years after it was built, the Pantheon's dome is still the world's largest unreinforced concrete dome.[3] The height to the oculus and the diameter of the interior circle are the same, 43.3 metres (142 ft).

It is one of the best-preserved of all Ancient Roman buildings, in large part because it has been in continuous use throughout its history, and since the 7th century, the Pantheon has been used as a church dedicated to "St. Mary and the Martyrs" (Latin: Santa Maria ad Martyres) but informally known as "Santa Maria Rotonda". The square in front of the Pantheon is called Piazza della Rotonda.

Omaggio a Vittorio Emanuele II di Savoia

Va, pensiero, sull'ali dorate

Va, ti posa sui clivi, sui colli

Ove olezzano tepide e molli

L'aure doci, del suolo natal!

Del giordano le rive saluta

Di sionne le torri atterrate

Oh, mia patria si belle perduta

Oh, membranza si cara e fatal!

Arpa d'or dei fatidici vati

Perche muta dal salince pendi?

Le memorie nel petto raccendi

Ci favella del tempo che fu!

O simile di solima ai fati

Traggi un suono di crudo lamento

O t'ispiri il signore un concento

Che ne infonda al partire virtu!

Che ne infonda al partire virtu!

Che ne infonda al partire virtu!r

Al partire virtu!

Beautiful tourists smiling at me :))

Ultimo scatto estrapolato dalla tour Romana, la tipica volta "bucata" del Pantheon, dal momento che la luce non era il massimo, ho deciso di convertire lo scatto in bianco e nero

The Renaissance artist, Raphael, requested that he be buried in the Pantheon and in 1520 he got his wish.

The Pantheon is one of the most well preserved buildings from ancient Rome and is about 2,000 years old.

There are many famous monuments all over the world modelled on the Pantheon in Rome such as; the US Capitol Building, the Pantheon in Paris, Santa Maria del fiore in Florence and the Jefferson Memorial in Washington D.C.

The Pantheon is the best preserved building of ancient Rome. It was a temple dedicated to the Roman gods and now it is used as a catholic church. Several Italian Kings are buried in the Pantheon, as well as the famous Renaissance painter Raphael.

El Panteón es el edificio mejor conservado de la antigua Roma. Fué un templo dedicado a los dioses romanos y ahora es usado como iglesia católica. Varios reyes italianos están enterrados en el Panteón, así como el famoso pintor renacentista Rafael.

The Pantheon is the best preserved of all Roman buildings, and perhaps the best preserved building of its age in the world. It has been in continuous use throughout its history. The design of the extant building is sometimes credited to Trajan's architect Apollodorus of Damascus, but it is equally likely that the building and the design should be credited to emperor Hadrian's architects, but not Hadrian himself as many art scholars once thought. Since the 7th century, the Pantheon has been used as a Catholic church. The Pantheon is the oldest standing domed structure in Rome.

Pantheon

This photo of the fountain in front of Pantheon is one of my favorites, from my trip to Rome. At first I didn't see it, but when I got close, this acid green color showed up. I when a bit closer, and I could see there was a shape in the water, and I went even closer to get this. And believe me, that color is as good as straight out of the camera.
