The day after attending that panel, I tried the free Instagram effect that I received for attending the Futures panel.
David Fischer, Principal of DreamStaffing, and James Gutierrez, CEO of Progreso Financiero, share their tales from the front lines of starting a business.
It only LOOKS like I disagree with what David's saying; I didn't expect to have to stand in stilettos while moderating two panels in a row. D'oh!

Panel in the Trent Bridge Nottingham City Transport Depot, from the days of Nottingham Corporation Tramways.
It shows all the employees that served in the Great War in their uniforms, with their names underneath.
The panel is about 12 feet by 15 feet in total, and was made by the Tramways carpenters.
A new home for it is required, as that part of the building is about to be demolished.

Stained glass panel by Julie Dickens.
Three years of study at the Architectural Stained Glass Department at Swansea culminated in the degree show, with each student (usually fewer in number by now than at the start!) allocated a window space in the building to display their work, with a mixture of panels representing the various techniques explored and styles developed by each individual.
I usually took a full set of photos of each show (I was known for being obsessive compulsive with a camera even then!) and felt uploading the full set best represents the range of talents and ideas, in many cases of people who never worked in the medium in post-college life.
If any of my contemporaries are looking in I hope they will be flattered and see this as a tribute to their achievements. If for any reason anyone is unhappy about their work being shared online do please let me know.
This panel is made of complete scrap and thrown away pieces of tile. I did put in some glass beads, but I always use glass beads. This will be placed on a Richmond,CA.city trashcan--Trash to Treasure!
The Plastivan panels were sealed around the edges with clear silicone and glued to the wall with Evostik Wet-Grab.

It’s one moment I’ll remember for a lifetime. It’s the third and final set, the score is 16-15, we were up and needed just one point to close the game. Both teams were just released from the timeout and I separated myself from my team, jogging back to the end-line of the court. I turn, and the ref bounces the ball to me. Not only was I now holding a volleyball in my hands, but I was holding the fate of my volleyball career on my shoulders. A missed serve, and my career could end within 3 points, or an ace and we go on to break the streak of one of the longest rivalries in area history. Either way, the pressure was on. The music cut and there I stood, my eyes locked on the ball in my hands, the ref waiting for me to look up. I don’t think she thought I would ever be ready, and neither did I. You really can’t prepare yourself for a moment like this until you’re there, but it was now or never. As I looked up, the ref locked eyes with me and as her whistle blew, silence. Dead silence. The countdown started. Eight… seven… six… I look at my coach and she gives me the sign to serve: zone 5, deep right corner. As I look back down and begin to bounce the ball, all I can hear is my pounding heart. Three seconds left, and I stand up straight, ball in hand and take the step forward. Now it was literally out of my hands.
Through this visual narrative I’ve chosen to tell, I’m reliving a moment of my past that I won’t forget. Many athletes can relate to this situation, being in charge of the game winning or game losing point, and hearing the eruption as the silence breaks around them when it’s over. For those who don’t play sports, the purpose of this narrative is to depict to them what it’s like to have the pressure of your career, your team, fans, and yourself against you in potentially of the most important moments of your life. The moment is visualized through the perspective of myself broken down step by step, the way it seemed to move in slow motion when I experienced it in real life.

Easter weekend has passed, I took a vacation day as well so I had four days off in a row, which is a big deal to me. I spent the majority of the days working on this project. I'm very disappointed with myself that this is as far as I got, I feel I should be on the next panel by now but I'm not even done this one. I guess watching movies while I work does slow me down. To be fair to myself, so does working in a colour that you are running out of (the green) and since it is streaky glass with an obvious direction it does make the job more tricky. But this IS what I love about mosaics, it's like a puzzle, but I get to create the pieces. Only My Muse knows what the final result will look like, I still have no idea, I just do as I'm told.
