Born in Kansas

On an ordinary plain

Ran to New York

But ran away from fame

Only seventeen

When all your dreams came true

But all you wanted

Was someone to undress you

And all the stars you kissed

Could never ease the pain

Still the grace remains

The face has changed

And you're still the same

And it's a long long way

From where you want to be

And it's a long long road

But you're too blind to see

Frame of silence

Of an innocence divine

Is a dangerous creation

When you fail the test of time

And all the photographs

Of ghosts of long ago

Still they hurt you so

Won't let you go

And you still don't know

And it's a long long way

From where you want to be

And it's a long long road

But you're too blind to see

When you look around yourself now

Do you recognize the girl

The one who broke a thousand hearts

Terrified the world

And all the stars you kissed

Could never ease the pain

And if the face has changed

The grace remains

And you're still the same

And it's a long long way

From where you want to be

And it's a long long road

But you're too blind to see

And it's a long long way

From where you want to be

And it's a long long road

And you're too blind to see

And it's a long long way

From where you want to be

And it's a long long road

And you're too blind to see

And it's a long long way...

I'm sorry I haven't been able to post anything for a while but I haven't been lazy - I've been working on a fansite for Louise Brooks, one of my favourite actresses, film historians and style icons. Huge thanks to Gertie at fan-sites.org for hosting my website - Louise Brooks Online.

There are nearly 3,000 photos and screencaptures from my collection in the gallery with more to come, as well as some pages with actual information (!) online too! Will wonders ever cease? So, You're very welcome to have an early viewing of the site and please send me any feedback or suggestions before I officially list it on the fan-sites site.

I hope that you approve of how I've spent my time away from flickr. Laura xxxxx

16/104.

Last photo from my shoot with Molleigh (and some portraits in the comments).

I originally intended something much more sinestre but this image caught my attention and I had to finish it. I've been a bit obsessed with "ghost" imagery lately. Series, perhaps?

I still have quite a bit of catching up to do, editing wise. Three more unedited shoots sit on my portable drive and I just don't seem to find the time to edit! As soon as one project is nearing completion another one resurfaces or lands in my lap. I really should learn to say no. But who am I kidding, I love chaos. Sadly, this does mean that I have to postpone shooting until all that work is done.

The Wreck of the Pandora and the Mutineers of the Bounty.

In 1787 with Captain William Bligh in charge the Bounty was sent to Tahiti to gather bread fruit for the African slaves on the British sugar plantations of the West Indies. The Bounty set sail from Tahiti with many reluctant sailors on board. Three weeks later they mutinied with Fletcher Christian sending Bligh and 24 loyal men in a small open boat into the Pacific Ocean. Amazingly Bligh and his men reached Timor and eventually England where the Royal Admiralty was horrified of this most serious crime- mutiny. In 1790 the Pandora was sent to Tahiti to recapture the 25 mutineers, recover the Bunty and bring the mutineers back to England so they could face naval justice. Just 14 mutineers were found and jailed in a small cabin on the Pandora called The Box as a reference to the Greek fable of Pandora ’s Box. In August 1791 the Pandora sank on the Great Barrier Reef near Torres Straits. By the time the men aboard abandoned ship 4 mutineers and 31 crew were drowned. 89 crew and 10 mutineers reached a coral cay and eventually they reached Timor in a small boat. Upon their return to England 7 of the mutineers were pardoned and 3 were hanged. The wrecked Pandora lay on the ocean floor undiscovered until 1977. The Museum of Tropical north Queensland has since worked with the British Navy, the owners of the Pandora, to recover artefacts despite the great depth of the wreckage. The remains of the Pandora have been remarkably well preserved on the ocean floor. Many are now displayed in the Museum.

24. March 2011

I bought myself this cool treasure chest two weeks ago and now I finally used it. First, I wanted to use it for a shoot in the forest, but since I was totally exhausted because of my workout I decided to shoot at home. Moreover, I'm a huge fan of greek mythology. It says that the opening of the pandora's box brought all bad to the world, but simultaneously it also brought hope. But I guess you know this mythology.

Due to the workout I'm suffering from aching muscles because the last days were days of sport. I want to be a little bit more sportive so I'm running 5km each day plus some other exercises like 200 sit-ups, push-ups etc. Hopefully, I'm going to keep up with my plan because mostly inner ratfink makes me wanna be lazy again :) What are you doing to keep fit?

Yes, I'm a freak and bought the UK version of this game and its predecessor (Professor Layton and the Curious Village) a few months ago instead of buying the NA versions. What can I say -- I prefer the covers of the UK versions :)

I havn't seen a condom machine in many a day. Thus, when I found this earlier today, it made me quite happy.

Sewn on a Friday the 13th, Precious Pollie Gris Gris is a Voodoo Doll of charm and grace. Her limbs are crafted of vintage 25 year old fabric, which makes it appear as if her skin is made of aged parchment paper embossed with floral tattoos and the like.

Most of her body is composed of super soft chocolate corduroy decked in a playful acorn and posy-star print. She feels much like velveteen.

Upon her chest is a little pocket, into which is slipped a blank parchment scroll and a small wooden tablet/tag onto which you can etch this thing or that.

Her eyes are made of coconut shell buttons with green/blue pearl headed push pins set as her pupils.

Her little red nose is also a pearl headed push pin.

Pollie Gris Gris has no mouth because she is a Secret Keeper...and as the saying goes, loose lips sink ships...So you won't have to worry about that with Miss Pollie.

She comes with her own Sacred Heart bespeckled with stars and eight pearl headed push pins.

Both Pollie and her Sacred Heart are stuffed by hand with Polyester Fiberfil that's been mixed with crushed/dried rosebuds/petals and lavender buds. A touch of lolly pop aroma gives Precious Pollie even more character, both inside and out.

She will also come to you bearing her own wooden Pandora's Box.

Said box is filled with a bit of moss, a small copper key and a 1/4 Oz. bottle of Dark Willow Perfume Oil.

Dark Willow is tantalizing thing, my doves. Essential oils of earthy and lush Patchouli & Cedar simmer with a bit of Amber Musk oil to create a sultry aroma that's sure to please. Other components of Dark Willow: sweet almond oil, jojoba oil, hazelnut oil, amber glass bottle, parchment paper label. It's perfect for aromatherapy, meditation, rites and rituals alike.

Pollie is a truly sweet little plush creature. Remember that Voodoo Dolls don't necessarily have to be tools of ill will, they can also be tools of good will towards others or towards yourself. She's quite the listener (as you can imagine with the mouse ears and what not). Beware of utilizing her for love spells during full moon phases and always be careful what kind of things you toss into her Pandora's Box.

All of this will come to you in gift style wrappings.

No two Precious Pollie Gris Gris Voodoo Dolls are exactly the same.

Pollie measures about 15" from the bottom of her feet to the top of her ears and she's about 7" wide at her widest points. She is most certainly not a child's toy. She will come to you with real pearl headed push pins since I kinda mean it when I say "Voodoo Doll".

She´s been away.

Just for four days, but still.

Wanted her home.

Badly.

Knew she would be exhausted.

Cheering her up with roses and such helped her to land, at home.

Slowly but sure.

Life is tough.

"Aber, ich bleibt immer bie Dir, liebling."

Laura xxxxx
