In classical Greek mythology, Pandora was the first woman on Earth. Zeus ordered Hephaestus to create her. So he did, using water and earth. The gods endowed her with many gifts: Athena clothed her, Aphrodite gave her beauty, Apollo gave her musical ability, and Hermes gave her speech.
According to Hesiod, when Prometheus stole fire from heaven, Zeus took vengeance by presenting Pandora to Prometheus' brother Epimetheus. When Epimetheus and Pandora got married, Zeus presented the newlyweds with a jar that he said to not open. Out of curiosity, Pandora opened the jar, releasing death and many other evils into the world. She hastened to close the container, the one beneficial item that escaped was – Elpis (usually translated "hope", though it could also mean "expectation").

More surreal landscape, this giant thing is at the entrance to the Pandora area. It has great textures and super details - its hard to believe its manmade.

There is a lot I could say about Pandora but to summarize it all in one word… impressive. Actually, make that EXTREMELY impressive. I was most looking forward to photographing it at night when everything comes “to life” in bioluminescent light and color and… well, as cool as it was to see it in person, I found photographing it to be tricky. For one, it’s soooooo much darker than I expected it to be. For nighttime landscape shooting, this often meant exposures in minutes, not seconds. I wanted to keep it as true to the scene as possible without overexposing, but doing that meant underexposure with barely discernible details in the floating mountains. In addition, whenever you have clouds at night, they will reflect the sodium lights of the Animal Kingdom parking lot turning your beautiful cloudy sky an orange Tootsie Roll color (which I found does work with this alien landscape, especially with a complementary color like purple/magenta in your scene). However, I preferred a more natural sky color so I played with the white balance in camera until I achieved the look I pictured in my head. Finally there are the LED’s… ugh. LED’s are a nighttime photographer’s nightmare. If there is a photographic Hell, it is lit entirely with ultra bright LEDs. They often fool your camera’s sensor as to their true color (especially the blues). After some color balancing to bring it back to “reality,” this is my happy medium interpretation of the scene.
Thanks for looking!
“Hope...which is whispered from Pandora's box only after all the other plagues and sorrows had escaped, is the best and last of all things. Without it, there is only time. And time pushes at our backs like a centrifuge, forcing us outward and away, until it nudges us into oblivion.”

Taken on Disney's Pandora ride, not the flying one, the boat one. The lighting that Disney always provides to set the atmosphere is also a perfect tool to take photos. I took this and realized it resembles a skull, this I used it. I made the colors shine, the blue light reflect through the skull with shine and shimmer. You can't tell me this doesn't look like it's in an ocean or under a blue moon.
