My first palindrome! Anyway these are some of the pen nibs my father acquired and used over the years, with a gag cigarette as a bonus. There are some spent Gillot Principality and Zaner-Bloser Fine Writer points in the upper right chamber. He would pass a flame over a new point before use to remove oils.

"IN GIRUM IMUS NOCTE ECCE ET CONSUMIMUR IGNI"
This famous macaronic verse, called "the devil's verse", is a riddle in the form of a palindrome - literally a puzzle inside a puzzle... It means "we wander in the night, and are consumed by fire" or "we enter the circle after dark and are consumed by fire" and is said to describe the movement of moths, others believe that it is about the mayfly.
In the middle ages it was seen as a magic spell, as were many other palindromes.

ARTIST STATEMENT: A Visual Palindrome
When I began this project, I had grandiose ideas of complex design work that I had imagined in my head and had planned to go down a completely different route after researching many different artists and designers. I had been inspired by the abstract and surreal art of Salvador Dali, René Magritte and the more modern art of Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and Banksy. I began to realize that what I was really attracted to was the beauty of the human form, and how different artists have captured it over the years in different styles and mediums.
I wanted to do something different that I hadn’t ever done before, and picking human subjects to draw would be quite the task for me, especially since it isn’t my strongest ability by far. I was drawn to pick Lana Del Rey as my subject for my compositions because of the interesting stage persona she presented herself in, of 1950s-1960s Americana culture as well as a very cinematic, whimsical style. I chose pictures of her that have reflections in them as well. I think it’s a very interesting concept of dealing with who you are as a person and how you perceive yourself as well as how the rest of the world perceives you. Which brings up the question, which person are you really? Am I just lying to myself or is it better not knowing how people really perceive me? I think it’s a very fascinating topic to ponder about. I also wanted to bring up to the audience the idea about how you would read the picture since it is a reflection. Would you read it left to right or right to left? How does one perceive themselves and others in mirrors as to what’s their true self?
I thought a Realistic style would be more fitting to the overall composition and focus just on the subject. I chose the blue color scheme because it emulated the feeling of questioning who is looking back at you in the mirror as well as echo Lana Del Rey’s musical feel that she has in her music. I chose to use pastels based on the rich color I could achieve from them, as well as an even steady blending tool. I also wanted to continue to challenge myself by trying a medium that I wasn’t familiar with or comfortable with using, which in the end, I felt like I gained more experience and skill from choosing to do a human figures in pastel. Each person can take something a little different away from viewing an image and I’m happy and encourage that.
I love word and number games. While I was driving along the Rim of the World highway in the San Bernardino mountains, I noticed that the mileage on the odometer was a palindrome. (A palindrome is a word or number that reads the same forward and backward.)
The word palindrome first appeared in the English language sometime around 1620–30. It comes from the Greek word palíndromos, meaning recurring. It is derived from pálin meaning again, or back, plus -dromos, meaning running.

This old cafe is named Wani No Niwa' or "Crocodile's Garden." The name in Japanese is a palindrome.
The name is noted at the bottom of the sign in hiragana, and above that the text in katakana and kanji announces that it's a cafe and that they serve a 'handmade' (homemade) lunch.

I forgot to do it this morning 'cause it would have been 1020 10-10 2010, a great palindrome. So for my 10/10/10 project I submit 2010 10 10 2010 instead. As I was at church I had to whip the camera out during the sermon. Hand held (did not want to use the flash) at 1/2sec 400ASA.
If it we going to be a great palindrome I should have done it at 0102 01 10 2010. But then I hadn't given it a thought before now.
