While I was sneaking up on a pair of Pileated Woodpeckers that I had heard calling from the woods to the north, a doe suddenly appeared to my right. I stopped and waited while one, then another yearling appeared from the shrubbery. I noted that one of the younger deer had an opaque cornea and obviously was blind, as it looked at me with its good eye. After getting great shots of them jumping over the rail fence, I continued to move towards the woodpeckers. I heard drumming and I knew it was from their favorite site, an older power pole,so I crept towards it. Sure enough, the woodpecker was there but I never got a clear shot. I assume these two were a pair. The American Oystercatchers at Bahia de Los Angeles were more tolerant of people nearby than the Black Oystercatchers we are familiar with in California. That is something that impressed me about some other bird species in Baja (including Turkey Vultures) many years ago.
