"Cardinal Twins - Painterly" by Patti Deters. Two Northern Cardinals (Cardinalis cardinalis) are looking at each other and appear to be having a conversation, perhaps wishing each other Merry Christmas. This is actually one young juvenile photographed in two poses, then smudge painted and flipped to create this apparent interaction. The painterly technique creates smooth feathers while retaining detail in the eyes and beaks. They are standing on green foliage to add to the seasonal effect. This simple minimal piece is also available with the words 'Season's Greetings'. Donut Derelicts - Huntington Beach, CA
This car was somewhat shiny but the paint had a rough finish. Like it was painted with a hose. It may be a work in progress.

There are more than a million pictures taken of this iconic sight in Yellowstone National Park every year. So I chose a painterly look to make mine a little different. The colors in the spring come from bacteria that thrive in hot water. I processed and textured this image in Photoshop.
The Ship Painters wall at the shipyard in Fraserburgh. Where better to clean your brush than on the wall of your paint shop before you knock off for the day. Must be years of paint on that wall.
On this visit to Misty Fjord it lived up to its name. Mist was so thick seaplanes were unable to fly in or out.

If you look at the world with bored eyes,
it can never be interesting.
Sometimes, all it takes is a curious heart, a little wonder,
and the willingness to look twice.
