Went on my regular walk from Southease to Lewes and back some 10 miles there was lots to see and it was a lovely peaceful day and the weather was kind but not too bright loads of wildlife and one or two other images to make.

I saw a few of these along the river but this one stayed bobbing on this rock.

"My last day of my summer camping trip to Qualicum Beach. We had a few hours before we had to catch the ferry back to the mainland. I wanted to enjoy the Island life as long as I could. We were sitting on a bench, facing the water, eating fish and chips. We were lucky to be able to have a show to watch during our supper. The stand up paddle boarders looked like they were having fun." - Vicky Robinson, 2014 myPQB Story Contest

Nonno came this morning and took the boys fishing off the pier at Half Moon Bay. What a beautiful morning for it and while Abi frolicked on the beach with me, the boys stood committed with their rods in hand.

Dogs were plenty, kids were already swimming and paddleboarders were impressing me with their power through the water.

Luca proved to be the fisherman hauling in four toadies :P and Max nothing. But then none of the other fisherman were catching anything either...

Unproductive but pleasant nonetheless.

Paddleboarders off Will Rogers State Beach in Santa Monica. I have another photo in which the water is shimmering in the sunlight, but I like this one better -- looks more realistic and I always like photos of people set against vast landscapes (or, in this case, seascapes). And, besides, I can't afford a bigger lens at the moment :)

Lots of crows always about but this one was alone.

Only just saw this little bird perched but still made this image.

Its hard to believe that the almost tropical sunlit Castle Mill Basin nestling beneath the ruins of Dudley Castle was was formed 428 million years ago during the Silurian era, when the area was covered by a tropical sea. Today this precious slice of history is only accessible through canal tunnels dug by hand nearly 200 years ago.to excavate the limestone minerals within the basin (Dudley Canal Tunnel Trust)

Across Wellington Harbour just on dawn.

For my second night in Waikaki, I came back to photograph the sunet with my 70-200mm instead of the 15-85 from the day before. I was able to capture a lot more interesting subjects (boats, planes, paddleboarders, surfers, etc...) with the extra reach rather than worry about going wide.

Two paddleboarders coming in at sunset. Taken at Toguchi Beach, Okinawa, Japan.

My HDR techniques (and the watermark!) are a mimicry of Klaus Herrmann's work. Go take a look at his Flickr stream to see some of his great work, then go stop by his HDR cookbook to see how he did it. He's got a bunch of before/after pictures, explanations, how-to's, and some great videos there.

Good news! You can now find me on SmugMug !

Surfers and paddleboarders are out

Somewhere, somewhen, Bobby Darin is clicking his fingers and still crooning like it's 1946.

EDIT: How awesome is Kevin Spacey?

A paddleboarder who, when I took the photo, seemed to be headed straight out to sea(!).

As seen with a 300mm lens at Crissy Field, San Francisco.
