Moschopolis is the first wine series of the homonym Moscopolis Winery. The brand is based on the premium wine quality matured in barrels, scientific approach of the owners' aged experience and thorough methodology of each production step -from the born of the grape- to the bottling.
Instead of introducing a representational metaphor in the label, we created a wine-self-reference one, a label that carries only wines' internal and essential information. This was achieved by collecting, structuring and organising the most important elements. By introducing a clear typographic system on the label, extroversion has been achieved, which arrives from the decision to include all information available directly to the viewer. The label introduces the wine and the winery, as if the owner is present by himself - without being.
Secondly, methodology was accomplished visually through this system, in a way that verifies the brands' own practice. Thirdly, education, as a way of communicating all the essential elements of this product to the also non familiar to barrel wines audience. Last but not least, considering the marketplace abroad, there is a clear reference to the origin (product of Greece) by including international words routed in greek language, such as Genesis, Aura, Methodology etc.
Part of this orthological approach was to name each label with a number, so as to keep a consistency that is related and actually verified with the nature of the brand’s practices.
All of the above was carefully crafted and printed in two colours with a hot bronze foil working as a stamp of the aged barrel.

A fine collection of old beverages and advertising seen recently in a basement store in the North of England and showing some marvellous contemporary packaging design. This framed poster advertises Lyons Cocoa in a new 2oz. (two ounces) tin for "Food & Warmth". The poster could date from the late 1940s or early 1950s.
J. Lyons, based in Hammersmith, London, were a major food and beverages concern that sold into the wider retail market as well as supplying their famous tea, coffee and Corner House restaurant empire.

Description: A range of 'squeeze-bottle' sauces offered by All Gold. This is a packaging up-date to the range.

What luscious design work for Sarotti Citronen-Schnitte (Zitronen) - Lemon Slices packaging and labels by Julius Gipkens. Gipkens (1883 - 1968) was a largely self-taught designer inspired by the works of Lucien Bernhart; in later years his own work became influential in the German style of 'Plakatstil'. He fled Germany in 1933 and emigrated to the United States. It is one of a series of chocolate labels he designed for Sarotti and that appear in this issue of Das Plaket.
Sarotti have their origins in Berlin in 1868 and in later years were bought out by Nestlé. They in turn sold the brand on to Stollwerck in 1998. The label was printed by Emil Gerasch of Leipzig.

Lightbulb package found in our house in Michigan. The former owner was an Electrician and has all sorts of old Detroit packaging left in his workroom. Awesome!

Description: The existing range was re-packaged. This is the only powdered 'gourmet' soup offered in this market, and has to compete with the tinned soups.

The Britannia Electric Lamp Works were based, I think, in London (Park Royal) and appear to have vanished at some point in the 1960s - I wonder who was behind them as they appear to have been founded in the 1920s when the British lamp industry was a rather tight cartel and 'going it alone' wasn't easy. The carton is duly patriotic - Britannia to the fore!
