nrhp # 01000282- Steamtown National Historic Site (NHS) is a railroad museum and heritage railroad located on 62.48 acres (25.3 ha) in downtown Scranton, Pennsylvania, at the site of the former Scranton yards of the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad (DL&W). The museum is built around a working replica turntable and a roundhouse that is largely a replica but which includes two authentic sections built in 1902 and 1937. All the buildings on the site are listed with the National Register of Historic Places.
Most of the steam locomotives and other railroad equipment at Steamtown NHS were originally collected by F. Nelson Blount, a millionaire seafood processor from New England. In 1964, Blount established a non-profit organization, the Steamtown Foundation, to operate Steamtown, USA, a steam railroad museum and excursion business in Bellows Falls, Vermont. In 1984, the foundation moved Steamtown to Scranton, conceived of as urban redevelopment and funded in part by the city. But the museum failed to attract the expected 200,000 to 400,000 annual visitors, and within two years was facing bankruptcy.
In 1986, the U.S. House of Representatives, at the urging of Scranton native Representative Joseph M. McDade, approved $8 million to begin turning the museum into a National Historic Site. The idea was derided by those who called the collection second-rate, the site's historical significance questionable, and the public funding no more than pork-barrel politics. But proponents said the site and the collection were ideal representations of American industrial history. By 1995, the National Park Service (NPS) had acquired Steamtown, USA and improved its facilities at a total cost of $66 million.
Steamtown National Historic Site has since sold a few pieces from the Blount collection, and added a few others deemed of greater historical significance to the region. Low visitor attendance and the need of costly asbestos removal from many pieces of the collection have spurred discussion about privatizing Steamtown.

The memorial is located in Stonycreek Township in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, and is 78 miles (126 km) southeast of Pittsburgh and 226 miles (364 km) west of Philadelphia.
A national memorial was created to honor the passengers and crew of Flight 93, who stopped the terrorists from reaching their target by fighting the hijackers. A temporary memorial to the 40 victims was established soon after the crash. The first phase of the permanent memorial was completed, opened, and dedicated on September 10, 2011.[2] The design for the memorial is a modified version of the entry Crescent of Embrace by Paul and Milena Murdoch.
A concrete and glass visitor center opened on September 10, 2015,[2] situated on a hill overlooking the crash site and the white marble Wall of Names.[3] An observation platform at the visitor center and the white marble wall are both aligned beneath the path of Flight 93.

Reddet tre og båt ved Bodø
På vei hjem fra Bodø kl 04 natt til søndag (23/11-03) gikk cabincruiseren på 21 fot med tre personer ombord hardt på grunn. Båten fikk store skader og lekkasje, men ble hengende på skjæret. To klarte å komme seg gjennom sjøen og på land, mens sistemann ble ombord og kalte på hjelp med VHF'en. Redningsskøyta "Ruth Opsahl" hørte oppkallet, og gikk rett ut.
- Radiosignalet var veldig svakt, men vi mente vi hørte navnet Røssøy, og gikk i den retningen i full fart. Heldigvis lyste den ene lanternen på båten fremdeles svakt, og vi så den før den slukket, sier fører Odd Dalen på redningsskøyta.
Redningsskøyta nådde fram til havaristen etter 10 minutter. Samtidig skled båten av skjæret, og sistemann hoppet i sjøen og kom seg opp på land. Via lettbåten ble alle raskt tatt ombord i "Ruth Opsahl". .
- De var våte, det var rundt fem minusgrader og blåste en del, så de hadde nok ikke kunnet klart seg lenge på land, sier skipper Dalen. .
Ombord i skøyta ble de sendt rett i varm dusj og tørre kjeledresser og fraktet til Bodø. Det stod da så bra til med dem at det ikke var nødvendig med sykehusbesøk.
RS "Ruth Opsahl" gikk deretter tilbake til havaristedet og berget båten av merket Bella 800. Det hadde samlet seg luft i akterkabinen som den fremdeles fløt på. Redningsskøyta tok den under sakte slep til Bodø og fikk den slippsatt der.

Conway Yard
Conway Yard is 23 miles northwest of Pittsburgh and, according to the Pennsylvania Railroad, was the "Largest Pushbutton Railyard in the U.S." Through the Conrail years and into the NS years, Conway had an eastbound and westbound hump yard. There is now only one hump but it is still a busy place.
After 9-11, things have changed considerably. The bridge over the east end of the yard is now off limits. Going anywhere near the yard now is discouraged. But there are still a few good photo opportunities available.

PA 21 (50 miles long) begins here, has an interchange w/ US 40-119/PA Turnpike 43, and serves the communities of Balsinger, Messmore, McClellandtown, Masontown, Paisley, and Khedive before interchanging w/ I-79. It then serves the communities of Waynesburg, Rogersville, Rutan, Graysville, Wind Ridge and Ryerson before ending at the WV border. The route continues as WV 891, which ends a short time later at US 250 near Cameron, WV.
