Taken at Oxbow Regional Park, which is near Troutdale in northern Oregon. Spent a few days visiting family who live near there & the entire area was full of moss covered trees like these.
Mount Moran decided to hide behind clouds whenever we paid him a visit last October.

On my first morning at Grand Teton National Park I woke well before dawn and drove to Oxbow Bend to experience the sunrise. I loved just standing still and listening to the sounds of geese swimming on the misty water. Though the light was still too dim to see much, I took a long exposure of Mount Moran. The quality of the indirect light in this image is so much different than a half hour later when the rays of the rising sun illuminated the mountain.

Happy Tuesday! Thanks for stopping by and for all of your kind comments, awards and faves -- I appreciate them all.

It has been years since I have seen a great sunset/sunrise at Oxbow Bend. We were so excited to witness this one.
My first almost possible scan from film. It isn't quite sharp but I am loving the look of Velvia. Due to a filter holder that sticks out too far, heavy vignetting clipped the edges so it is a 6x15 instead of a 6x17. Time to modify the holder.

One of the benefits of going to Jackson Hole in May is that the Teton mountain range is still wearing its winter coat of snow...
Here is a look-back photo from our Wyoming trip in 2017. This is Oxbow Bend not long after an early-season snowstorm that had closed Yellowstone to the north.
Moods change along with the light at Oxbow Bend in the morning in Wyoming. This was my favorite - midway towards full daylight - when the light was soft and diffuse. Taken on Jeff Clow's Dirt Cheap Photo Tour.
Autumn at Oxbow Bend. It was windy that day, so no reflections in the river, but the color was fantastic. Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming, USA, October 2023

A quiet dawn at Oxbow Bend earlier this year with a bit of morning color in the sky...
One of the most serene spots in North America. I hope you can see it yourself someday if you have not yet done so in your life.

Continuing on with my little Wyoming adventure we find ourselves at the beautiful Oxbow Bend. After almost no sleep the night before, a 10 mile hike, and an unexpectedly cold night at the foothills of the Tetons I decided to get up early and catch the sunrise. I woke up about 30 minutes after my alarm went off and 15 minutes before sunrise. I jumped up, threw my clothes on and rushed out the door (of the tent) all while praying I'd have a halfway decent place to shoot without having to climb underneath someone's tripod. Fortunately, I was staying about 8 minutes from Oxbow Bend according to my GPS which means about 5 if you "forget" to look at your speedometer. As you can see I made it in time for the sunrise and I believe it's the best light I had the entire trip. I opted for the long exposure because I thought the softness of moving clouds would showcase the rigid mountain structure a bit better.
Let me know what you think. Thanks for looking.
