I was walking a fence line on the edge of Selway Meadow with my dad when we came across a sitting log. When we walked up to it I saw the adult Great Grey owl fly off. I looked for her but couldn't find her. When I walked back to dad and set for a couple of minutes this screeching started, a high pitch screech then a deeper pitched screech. Following the screeches I was able to located them. And yes this owlet was able to fly.

Discovered another I like, I must learn to take more time to go thru my shots before I pick my favorites.
The nest where this owlet were located was destroyed in a wildfire. Two owlets where rescue and are currently growing up under The Costa Rican Raptor Foundation supervision. They will be released to the wild when they reach adulthood.

The spotted owlet (Athene brama) is a small owl which breeds in tropical Asia from mainland India to Southeast Asia. A common resident of open habitats including farmland and human habitation, it has adapted to living in cities. They roost in small groups in the hollows of trees or in cavities in rocks or buildings. It nests in a hole in a tree or building, laying 3–5 eggs. They are often found near human habitation. The species shows great variation including clinal variation in size and forms a superspecies with the very similar little owl.
Great Horned Owlet in a Fig Tree, Florida
I did not see the Mom or Dad, but did see a sibling sleeping next to this little one. I took a few photos with a telephoto and left him alone.
a family of long-eared owls (Asio otus) bred at home this summer, making the garden very enjoyable and fun, playing, jumping, screaming and above all ..... I'm hungry!!!
Spotted Owllet have adapted themselves close to human habitat over the years. You can find them calling out loud or happily gathered on dried tree branches during daytime after short showers. They lay about 3-5 eggs in tree creeks or isolated building with small holes. Happy and curious little buggers.

Worrisome short video of owlets mid-day in the heat. Looks like they are all lethargic and near death from heat stroke. Next video shows them later after I put up some shade. They hardly moved when I was on a ladder next to the entrance, screwing a board to the top of their box.

GREAT HORNED OWLETS-05240340
It was a overcast but warm day so I took my dog to a local park today just to get out of the house before they close everything due to the Corona virus. My 90lb GSD laid at my feet and made sure everyone kept more than the 6 feet "social distancing" while I was busy taking pictures. These two Great Horned owlets have just fledged and were hanging out on a branch high in the nest tree.

Bored owlets keep busy by napping and nibbling in between meal delivery. I love the expressions of this young great horned in this series of four images. “Nope. Yuck!”
A common but not so commonly seen bird, this is one of two young ones from recent breeding at Campbell Park. I was waiting to photograph the two of them which often sit cutely side by side, but no luck -- today they were sitting in separate hollows.
Barn Owl (Owlets)
Taken on 30/08/17
I took this image down in case it caused an issue about licenses. But decided to re upload it as I have a clear conscience about taken it. I came across these young barn owls in a isolated derelict farm house. The photo was taken as a recording shot with a telephoto lens from a distance not to disturb the birds.
I returned 3 weeks later and saw no sign of birds although I did not enter building as it is in a very unsafe condition. I have spoken to local farmer who has seen an adult bird in the area but had no idea it had nested in old building. This site is in an isolated part of the Durham dales and unlikely to be found, I have tweeted local bird club but I won't be disclosing site to anyone. Will revisit site in a couple of weeks to see if there is any sign of fledging and speak to the tenant farmer who said he would keep a look out while going about his business.

The species is absent from Sri Lanka, although the birds are found across the Palk Straits, just 30 kilometres away at Rameshwaram. Nests near human habitations may show higher breeding success due to increased availability of rodents for feeding young. The species shows great variation including clinal variation in size and forms a superspecies with the very similar little owl. - Courtesy Wikipedia
