pca91: Decades

WIT: Wild patterns, flower power, 1960s. I didn't want to miss this one and had to come up with something this afternoon. I have this collection of (mostly crappy) old cameras. A few nice ones are on display in the living room, and the rest are in a tub in the basement. I dug this one out because I thought it fits the time (not sure though). I took the camera strap off and put the flower into one of the holes where the strap goes. Gave the entire photo a slightly overprocessed look with a red tint and cropped it to a square. 52mm, f/3.5, 1/100, ISO-1000

Overprocessed

total and utter boredom setting in. Overprocessing is always a sign of that.

I went overboard on the processing, I know, but I'm in just one of those moods today . . .

Pine cones in a bucket, after cleaning up the backyard after a loooong winter. I was inspired by a flickr friends post www.flickr.com/photos/cagey_u2/34012552160/in/dateposted/

I thought I would play with this capture a bit for HSS Sliderssunday - being just a "little" over processed and slid I hope it still qualifies.

An attempt at over-processing a picture - on purpose.

Pink Floyd

That inspired me to start my photography. I figured if i can capture what i see, i will always have that part of what made me...me.

This photo is waaay off the beaten path for me. I look at this as a painting with my lens. Hopefully some rich person with a bunch of money will too! LOL

Anyways, I will be just as pleased if you enjoy =D

Notes, comments, faves and corrective criticism are always appreciated!!! Thank you in advance!

A new render of an old picture. I think this photo was ok, but I wasn't satisfied with the noise level. I did this without flash or special lights, and I don't own any fast autofocus lenses.

Hence ISO6400. I broke my own rule of thumb which is to not go past 3200 on MFT.

So now I redid the demosaicing and denoise using DxO PureRaw. Don't get me wrong, I don't think this software is miraculous; actually, I don't like the output. But it can help with noise in these very high ISO scenarios. Some judicious use of lowpass filters in darktable can bring the DxO overprocessed madness into something more natural-looking.

At least I hope so.

It pays to advertise! If catching the eye(s) of a passing pollinator is your "thing" , make sure you stand out in a crowd!! This MIGHT do the trick! HSS

I usually do not overdo post processing, or do any at all. I created this on accident. I changed it to black and white originally and was adjusting the colors. I was not too happy with the bw treatment and was just going to move on to the next shot. I change it back from bw to color and this crazy picture was what emerged.

This is a picture of a mansion that made into a private college in the city of Tampa. It has minarets on the top of the building and stands out against the modern skyline of Tampa.

Classic overprocessing cliche, and I do not know how I did this but it sure does look good cliche. HCS everyone!

*It made it to Explore also! :-) Thanks everybody. Highest so far #78.*

I tried to process and develop my photos lifelike, realistic, and faithful.

But it seems that I get most most likes for the stuff that is seriously overprocessed, unreal, distorted, and unearthly.

So, alright, if that is what you want, from this day you will get it. Don’t blame me.

This is the first one, back to overdrive and overprocessing.

Winter sun. Going out shooting in the shortest day period in mid winter, it's either sunrise or sunset as these pretty much collide or overlap (maybe not the right words). That is if the sun decides to brake through the clouds. I really love the creamy thick colors the winter sun casts on everything and of course photos may look vibrant and even overcolored in this light. Normally I try not to overprocess but just to correct what comes out of camera to my vision of the scene. But of course, since I have all the © rights it can be tempting to help the natural colors a little bit ;-)

I'd say this shot is maybe 5% more vivid than my eyes remember the scene. But maybe 35% from what came out of the camera.

This tiny series of three VERY overprocessed Peony shots is for the purpose of printing, and then drawing, then painting. They ARE overprocessed deliberately, to let me see where the shapes are and to see the colour a bit more clearly. Sorry about that from a photographic POV, but I am VERY anxious to try to paint at least ONE of the series. As always, stay tuned, but do NOT hold your collective breath!!

Spotted this in passing and (after a ten minute wait in pouring rain for traffic to allow me to get out to the middle of the intersection) .. could not resist the MUCH IMPROVED new street crossing lights installed in the city. (lol)

... a bit 'overprocessed' for colors but I could have brought out the pouring rain a bit .. just a quick drive by snap .. Fall is a 'quick' season.

The doomed sacrificial celebrants marched to their end in the dark tunnels beyond...

Originally titled "The Castle Hall", this version is perhaps overprocessed, but I like the effect. Looks more like HDR but it's a single shot from a 10 megapixel camera, upscaled, sharpened, and with a lot of "local contrast" added.

I do this kind of treatment on a number of shots which many think are HDR but which are actually single exposures -- often shot dark to preserve highlights.

Two flaws of much HDR I've seen are excessive "halos" and an unreasonably bright black level. I try not to have that in my shots but the local contrast filters can really cause haloing problems on dark to light transition areas. Then it requires "brush work" to fix -- it's a labor of love in post processing. Probably more time than it's worth sometimes, but I like to do it.

These old CCD cameras had a lot of noise by today's standards even at base ISO, so it limits somewhat what you can do for noise control in shadow lifts for shots like this. New tools mean I can mess with it more, lol.

One of the many goat pictures I took in Ethiopia a while ago. Goats are everywhere in Addis Ababa...main streets, side streets, restaurant table, your hotel room. No, this last one is not true. When I first saw them from the distance, I thought they are a pack of stray dogs. So here - shamelessly overprocessed for Sliders Sunday with the original in the comments. HSS, everyone!

Heavy Frost.

It turns out we got a pretty cold winter, it's now several weeks more or less freezing. The snow is gone, but the lakes have thick ice now. This allows persepectives that are impossible normally, you can just walk into the lake. Nice. Unfortunately the paths are slippery, I managed to fall on my buttock on my way back, but luckily I had my camera packed already, when that happened.

I realitze the last few rounds of photos were a little heavy handed and overprocessed. Here I tried a more subtle rendering which maybe suits the subject better? I don't know. Decisions, decisions ... I try to get out again to one of the lakes at the weekend. Usually at the weekend under such conditions everything is pretty crowded and not so nice and quiet as it looks like here, when I was almost on my own.

. . . This slightly over processed view of the Rapid River was suggested to me by my cell phone (Android) the other day! The original image is posted along with this one, so that you can see what my phone decided to do all on it's own! Brings to mind a historical quote from the inventor of the Morse Code in 1844: "What hath God wrought"?

Have a great week Facebook and Flickr friends!

I LOVE FIGS. I love to eat them, to look at them , to draw them and to photograph them.I REALLY overprocessed this one and , although not cricket, I suppose, I DO like the effect!

Do you think these wind turbines could have been any smaller? Yep. Just see another version in the comments. I managed to take a few fairly pitiful shots from the car window as we were driving to Yosemite. We didn't have time to venture off the highway and get anywhere closer to the turbines, but hoped to do so on the way back. Never happened. But at least I still have these. They are on the crappy side, but perfect for Sliders Sunday - any overprocessing can only improve them, not destroy.

The original image and another "tiny wind turbines" version are below the fold. HSS, everyone!

This started out as a shot of our black-eyed susans that I took the other day...the camera was cold from the AC in the house and it was the first shot....and the lens was fogged up because it was so hot outside so there was no way to salvage it. So I did a bunch of stuff to it and got this...hope you like it. HSS!

SLIDER SATURDAY 11/52

There are times that I find extensive post processing evokes a very different feel or mood from an image and sometimes I like the result.

Being more of a purist with photography, I seldom post these overprocessed images but I decided for 2012, I would post those images on what I have termed "Slider Saturday". These will be images that I have extensively moved the sliders in post processing.

A little more Fractalius Fun. This was a horrible overblown shot (because I used flash) of a black cat that I determined couldn't be hurt by Slider Saturday. :))

No special 'artistic' filters were used, just a bit of HDR-ish over-processing with Snapseed on the phone - to emphasise the naturally pictorial look of old Venice alleys.

(And to answer the riddle from the previous photo ;)

No, not my age, unfortunately. :))) Thousands of views. I know, still just a flickr baby compared to most of you all! All the smaller milestones slid right by me before I could say so, so I've been watching out for this one!

for some unknown reason i like this over-exposed, over-processed photo..!!

Some shots taken before the Aliwan parade started. The participants were waiting under a shade and I milled around and had to haggle for position since there were tons of photographers doing their thing as well. Photo is overprocessed; just experimenting—have no fear.

Bit of extreme HDR treatment.... just because!

It was my first day at University today. Oh yes. I was nervous indeed. It was ok though, except for the fact that I was so nervous last night that I ended up falling asleep at 3 AM (got up at 7:30 today)...so yeah, I'm off to bed. Ok ok...maybe I'll just watch an episode of FRIENDS first. Ok, maybe two, but that's it, I'm telling you.

PS: Overprocessing can be A LOT of fun. You should all try it. haha.
