Filmpalast Rex, Pforzheim

Nach eigener Aussage Mainstream-Filme. Könnte aber gerne noch mehr Publikum vertragen - da arbeiten nämlich nette, engagierte Leute.

I'm going to be so busy from now on. We just switched to 7 period days which means I'm going to have a lot to do each night. I only have an hour each night for the internet plus weekends. Blah school.

I miss boating.

No one has ever seen the surface of Jupiter, but this is what it could look like. But in reality it's just a photo of some q-tips heavily over-prosessed with filters, textures and experiments HSOS !!!

I have many more from this shoot that I would like to get uploaded. Also, I've just started to play around with some of the options in Picasa, so please forgive any overprocessing!

Smile on Saturday: Over-processed

In real life, this is a scene of white and gentle greys and browns. I felt a bit reluctant at first to distort it -- poor Mother Nature! -- but it's growing on me. I do like purple!

Better late than never for Slider Sunday....a way overdramatized sunrise shot from our recent cruise that included a day in Newport, RI. We got on the tender early and got to enjoy the sunrise. Hope you have a great day. HSS!

After the Librodo Way, I told myself not to overprocess the photos I took during the workshop since I believe in the essence of its purity. But since our shoot was based on a concept, I'm going to break that promise and try some processing that would further justify our concept.

Thanks for viewing!

Guys, here's Mae---the fiery & hot Fire.

...I almost missed them. But just about found time in my diary (not dairy, as is my habit to type!) and the weather gods aligned to allow me to get out and experience.

These are SOOC, as it makes it so much quicker to process :-)))

But, yes, I had that secret weapon in my SOOC arsenal... my helios lens... which adds something a little extra, without needing to prod and poke and overprocess (I hope!).

(NB i've realised this wasn't a helios shot, but one from my macro lens. just to clarify.)

Smile-on-Saturday ... Over-processed

My photostream has turned into all cats because I've been enjoying knitting as my primary creative outlet recently...the colors, the patterns and the act of creating something tangible is so enjoyable for me at this point in my life. So here is a knitting themed slider. Hope you have a great day. HSS!

Yipes, I'm pretty sure that I remember this was once a pretty shot.

I only knew Candy Dulfer’s instrumental version, still prefer it to the heartbreakers by Luther van Dross and Dionne Warwick. Alternate Titles: Broken Home. Space Available. Open. Hollow. Pillars of the Community.

Both of these monochrome scenes benefit from overprocessing the colors, after conversion to B&W.

Geotag is generic.

Happy Mono Monday!

My overprocessing job on a vintage photo of B-movie stuntman Gary Kent. I'm on the tail end of editing my doc LOVE AND OTHER STUNTS about Gary. The weekly theme in the 52-week project is "Sliders Sunday."

One more reason to love Flickr:

Earlier today, I posted an old IR pic and said I wished I knew how to set the correct white balance. Szmytke left me a comment with instructions and... whaddya know... it's a whole freakin' infranew world!

This one is suffering from too much processing. (Reminds me of those girls in high school with their hair so coarse and porous and brittle from repeated bleachings and permings. ) Anyway... yes, overprocessed... but one of many interesting results I got today. Not great pics, but learning experiences. And... just when I needed it... a new avenue of shooting to explore.

220/365 - Our Daily Challenge - "Blue":

Well, unlike Anna, I have TONS of blue things in my house. I LOVE blue but, rather than shoot more china or glassware, I was in the mood for something more natural today. Thankfully, I found some blueberries in the fridge. They're getting kind of old, so I really had to hunt to find some that weren't shriveled! :) After my heavy overprocessing yesterday, I restrained myself today. lol. Just a little vintage tint and otherwise SOOC.

A "Happy Smile on Saturday" for all of you

and stay healthy.

This past week it seems that the White Admiral have taken to the air in the backyard - caught this one on the cottoneasters.

Used Prisma: Femme filter - all in the iPhone. First for a Painterly effect - then used only a bit of a slide for HSS in Paint.net this time.

My biggest mistake for this image was assuming I could just combine the images when it was time to edit. I should've stayed another 10 minutes just to see if I could get this result in one frame. I spent so long stacking up this image and it still doesn't even look real.

These things were in Pioneer Square the weekend of the Portland Light Festival this year. It was a Manhandla! Must say the vegetation in the "city of roses" has grown into something more accurate to what this city has become. They've touched hellfire and have become wicked. There was a large amount of people because there were people in the stands on the right watching some fire performers and some terrible music (don't remember exactly what it was). But this would end up becoming the star of the night if I could get it right. I already shot fire effects in Idaho so this would be an interesting task.

Halfway through shooting I realized that the mouths closer to the fence had tongue levers to make the fire effects go off. I asked a couple of people to set it off for me cause I didn't want to move and make it even harder to edit later. And then I just had to pray that someone else hit the one on the other side.

As already stated, this was a nightmare to edit. Most of this was a darker image to keep people in the shadows. I brought in lighter images for the closer plant and the entire fire installation in the back, including the fire itself, took hours to mask that properly. I think I'm more proud that I actually finished what I started then how it looks cause it still looks overprocessed. But this was the best shot I got all night here.

The sun's first rays catch an old whitetail buck in the forest. I first observed this buck in 2022 and estimated him to be at least 5 and a half. Though his antlers are a little wonky, he was still holding his own during the rut.

I worry that this image looks overprocessed, however I made only very minor adjustments. I got lucky when he stepped into a narrow beam of light only a minute or so after the sun crested the horizon and pierced the forest.

some fun with the sliders for a change

Tulips, shot with an analog camera, Canon Eos 5, and the Lomography Petzval lens. Film: Fujifilm Professional 400, expired for 12 years. Not much over processing needed with this combination....

The skyline of Frankfurt, captured beneath the iconic Holbeinsteg Bridge.

I first photographed this scene back in 2002. At that time, the underside of the bridge was completely black—today, it shines with a metallic look that blends beautifully with the city skyline.

23 years later, it was time to revisit this location and relive the memories. I have analyzed countless photos of this perspective over the past decades, and it's fascinating how often it doesn't fully work. The bridge is often distorted due to extreme wide angles, the skyline is missing or partially blocked, or the dynamic flow of the composition is lost. And then there's the post-processing—ranging from underexposed to overprocessed. I would say less than 5% of the published images truly capture the full potential of this scene.

To capture the bridge and skyline in a powerful composition, the ultra-wide-angle lens must be tilted sharply upward, causing extreme distortions that require extensive correction. In the end, nearly 50% of the resolution is lost in the process, but the result is worth it. Perhaps that's why so many photographers struggle to get this shot just right.

Or, as Spock would say: "Fascinating."

I messed around with this one in Photoshop a ridiculous amount, so 'purists' will hate it - but I had fun doing it. :-)

My son said I massively overprocessed these sunset photos. I replied that they're never as vibrant on screen as they are in real life anyway.
