Several inscriptions from different time periods compete for a limited amount of space. Cowboy and emigrant grafitti cover older Indian pictographs. The Indian art includes yellow figures moving across the top of the rock panel and red outlines of horses or buffalo down below. If the red outline is a horse it must be Apache art. If it is a buffalo or some other game animal the art could be much older, perhaps even archaic. The yellow figures above may be from an even older group of people that predate the arrival of the Apaches. The cowboy inscriptions are mostly names and dates. It is not certain which one of them left the self-portrait. While the Indians of later times rarely, if ever, marked over older drawings, the whites who came through in the nineteenth century (and the ever obnoxious modern spray-paint vandals) had no such inhibition against defacing the pre-existing artwork.
*What was the assignment (include concept/idea)?
The assignment was to create a drawing that included traced materials. Instead of using objects, I used my hand.

*What were the important steps, techniques, and or materials used to make this?
1) I traced my hand over and over again in pencil (because marker would leave a mark on my skin :).
2) I retraced the pencil lines with a black marker.
3) With the shapes that formed, I used different colors to shade in the spaces.
3.5) I added a reddish-yellowish color scheme to the middle, the colors kind of form a circle of red/yellow.
4) I tried to space the colors out so that two of the same colors wouldn't touch each other.
5) I added some black sharpie to the black markers to create an even darker black shade.

*What was your inspiration?
My inspiration was the hand and the shape it can form when its outline overlapped another hand. One hand with five fingers could make multiple shapes that are able to be colored.

*What did you learn/ what would you do differently next time?
I learned that next time I could try to make this through photoshop. I also understood that the markers created a very clean look that I could use more often in some cases.

My new car!
The four overlapping rings represent the four companies (Audi, DKW, Horch and Wanderer) that amalgamated in 1932 to form Auto Union.
The International Olympic Committee tried to sue Audi through the small claims court in 1995 because of the similarity of this logo to the five interlocking Olympic rings, which represent the five major geographical areas of the world: Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe and Oceania.

I don't know what went wrong but all of the photos in this film seem to be over lapping each other and I can't figure out why but it looks kinda trippy so I uploaded them anyway
