The tiny building with the brown roof dates back from the first half of the 16th century and is the oldest remaining one on market square. It's facade was covered with horizontal timber planks during the 19th century.

Östlich von Osterode befinden sich mit Acker, Bruchberg und Brockenmassiv die drei höchsten Bergketten des Harzes - weiter nach Osten wird das Gebirge dann im Unterharz deutlich niedriger und "sanfter".
Looking north from the top of Acker, one of the highest mountain ranges in the Harz mountains.
The three highest mountain chains of the Harz (Acker, Bruchberg and Brocken) are strung together just east of Osterode - further east the mountains are far lower and more "smooth".
