A house near our own was destroyed by a five-alarm fire a few weeks ago. As the fire became manageable, the fire department called in an excavator to demolish the smoldering building to ensure that the fire was completely doused and the structure wouldn't pose a safety risk.
The city has posted an Order to Comply notice on the fence surrounding the rubble that was the house. The notice reads...
THE INSPECTION on or about 31-March-2010 at the above-referenced address found the following contravention(s) of the Building Code or the Building Code Act, 1992.
YOU ARE HEREBY ORDERED to correct the contraventions itemized below immediately, buy the date listed or by Immediately.

As you'd expect, the Order to Comply notice has earned the city a lot of criticism and laughs from passersby.

Honourable Janet Austin, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia, and Premier David Eby bestowed the province's highest honour, the Order of British Columbia, on influential leaders who have served with distinction and excelled in fields of endeavour benefiting the people of British Columbia and elsewhere, on December 1, 2022.

In front of friends, family and a room full of distinguished guests, 23 exceptional civic leaders were honoured today at Government House with the Province’s highest form of recognition, the Order of British Columbia.
“The Order of British Columbia is the Province’s most prestigious accolade,” said Lt.-Gov. Judith Guichon, Chancellor of the Order. “For 25 years, we have publicly recognized those who have dedicated themselves to bettering the lives of their fellow citizens. These recipients exemplify the positive difference one person can make in a community and are an inspiration to all British Columbians.”

The history of stormtroopers in a particular galaxy far, far away is a long and varied one. The originals were all clones of Jango Fett, bred to be fierce, loyal and determined. By the time the First Order replaced the Galactic Empire, stormtroopers were a mix of volunteers, captives and orphans. The one thing they all had in common was the inability to hit the broad side of a bantha.
This Army Order was issued in October 1919 and outlined the criteria for the addition of the 'clasp' to the 1914-1915 Star which was awarded in 1917. Basically it listed the men and units who could wear the clasp, these were members of the BEF who went to France in 1914 and were under fire between 5th August and 22nd November 1914. The men who wore the clasp were the "Old Contemptibles", the name given to the BEF by the Kaiser when he called it "A Contemptible little Army". As the Kaiser was a Field Marshall in the British Army at the time, that was quite rude. See link for the other side of the Army Order.

This photo was taken at a beach on Prince Edward Island. While the ocean views were spectacular, I found myself drawn to the juxtaposition of the angular wooden beach structures against the soft flowing waves and curves of the sand. A bright blue sky and brilliant red sands were just icing on the cake for me.
