Submitted for Active Assignment Weekly: Chaos
RATIONALE: I can't pretend to understand chaos theory in any 'deep' way, but I think part of its essence is that there is a predictable element to everything - even seemingly chaotic events and phenomenon. Apparently one of the early applications of chaos theory was in weather forecasting. Given the limited number of variables that can reasonably be known or assumed, weather prediction can, at best, extend several days - no longer. This sand scape is, to me, predictable in some ways. I know the water will ebb and flow over the beach and create similar scapes endlessly, yet there is an aspect of chaos when one tries to actually think they might be able to predict or MAP how the sand scape will look or change over time. Anyway, this is my somewhat chaotic thinking around chaos theory and this is my entry for this week.
WIT: A walk to the river bank with camera as usual. I took several sand shots. The patterns were quite beautiful. The sun was shining in the late afternoon, and although there was some nice slanted side light, when I looked at the shots, they were quite washed out (no pun intended), so the post processing includes highlighting a bit and adding lots of shadow. When I tried to sharpen, it all fell apart - so no sharpening.
The doors on this elevator look burned, and also a bit off the frame. Almost like the elevator was struck by lightning and came crashing back down to the lobby. Good thing they placed it out of order; we'll be much safer in the service elevators.
The Blue Angels remain in order even when parked. Seen at the 2021 Thunder Over Michigan Airshow, sponsored by the Yankee Air Museum.

Not the best picture or neatest ensemble. This cake is best showcased cut into squares or rectangles --- sliced through to unravel the boozy griottes embedded inside the dark chocolate chantilly but I'll just have to make do with these indiv round portion pics as the actual cake was made for a my mom's birthday party and I didn't get a chance to capture any shots of the sliced square cakes before it was all distributed within a few minutes.
I had previously made the Foret Noire, and had always wanted to try Hidemi's version in Charme. Tastewise, this recipe feels much lighter on the palate. I made an 8" square cake and another 8 individual round portions. Pretty straight forward to put together except that my chocolate shards just cant seem to stand out longer than a couple of minutes.
Full of AC8s, assult carbines, tac swords, and lewis guns! Also, there is a limited edition dotted-camo STG44-Vampir, so... yeah! Pretty good order, and not a bad cost either ($34)!

Bringing Order from Chaos
Read about how we transformed our camp kitchen drawer using TrekPak inserts in the July 2013 issue of FJC Magazine.
A house near our own was destroyed by a five-alarm fire a few weeks ago. As the fire became manageable, the fire department called in an excavator to demolish the smoldering building to ensure that the fire was completely doused and the structure wouldn't pose a safety risk.
The city has posted an Order to Comply notice on the fence surrounding the rubble that was the house. The notice reads...
THE INSPECTION on or about 31-March-2010 at the above-referenced address found the following contravention(s) of the Building Code or the Building Code Act, 1992.
YOU ARE HEREBY ORDERED to correct the contraventions itemized below immediately, buy the date listed or by Immediately.
Item: 1
Reference: 8 (1) Act
Description and location: Demolition 2 storey duplex without benefit of a Demolition Permit
As you'd expect, the Order to Comply notice has earned the city a lot of criticism and laughs from passersby.
In case you haven't seen it, here are a couple of videos I shot; one of the spectacular fire and the other of the excavator demolishing the smoldering building under the supervision of the Ottawa Fire Department.
