Another good flowering for Autumn. Zygopetalum orchid species originate in South America. This is one of the many hybrids bred from only a few natural species in which superior colour and size have been developed, whilst maintaining the highly perfumed scent of the originals.

White Moth Orchid Flowers- Orchid Show, New York Botanical Garden Bronx

You were there when we took our first steps,

And went unsteadily across the floor.

You pushed and prodded: encouraged and guided,

Until our steps took us out the door...

You worry now "Are they ok?"

Is there more you could have done?

As we walk the paths of our unknown

You wonder"Where have my children gone?"

Where we are is where you have led us,

With your special love you showed us a way,

To believe in ourselves and the decisions we make.

Taking on the challenge of life day-to-day.

And where we go you can be sure,

In spirit you shall never be alone.

For where you are is what matters most to us,

Because to us that will always be home

======================================================

Just playing with my Christmas present from my husband, a shining new Nikon Speedlight SB-600.

After a bright hour of sunshine this morning, thick clouds rolled in and it SNOWED the rest of the day...what else could I do but boycott the outdoors and sit down to paint flowers.

I kept changing the painting, saving the stages as I went, which is why we have four versions.

Orchids at the New York Botanical Garden’s 2012 Orchid Show “The Orchid Show: Patrick Blanc’s Vertical Gardens” (Bronx, New York)—March 24, 2012.

Blanc’s vertical gardens are world-renowned for their cutting edge approach to horticulture. After years of travelling around the world as a professional botanist observing how plants grow in their natural habitats, Blanc pioneered a cutting-edge approach to vertical gardens that is celebrated by horticultural and design communities alike.

pink Orchids to Celbrate Spring

An orchid image that I overlooked when posting the series of orchids taken in early July.

While in Singapore I visited The National Orchid Garden which was a profusion of amazing and beautiful blooms.

Phalaenopsis Orchid hybrids are mainly known for the perfect crystalline white-wedding bouquet-flowers they provide and also perfect-pink flowers. Their shape and texture give them a perfectly starched look and the flowers themselves can last for more than two months. These newer hybrids, which have become more prominent

in the last 10-15 years, display brilliant coloring and fantastic speckled spotting, unseen in any other flower ~ Fort Lauderdale, Florida U.S.A.

*******************************************************************

Phalaenopsis is one of the most popular orchids in the trade and is native to southern China, the Indian Subcontinent, Southeast Asia (Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia), New Guinea, the Bismark Archipelago, and Queensland.

The generic name is a reference to the genus Phalaena, the name given by Carl Linnaeus to a group of large moths; the flowers of some species supposedly resemble moths in flight. For this reason, the species are sometimes called Moth orchids.

In the wild, some species grow below the canopies of moist and humid lowland forests, protected against direct sunlight; others grow in seasonally dry or cool environments. The species have adapted individually to these three habitats. They bloom in their full glory for several weeks. If kept in the home, the flowers may last 2-3 months.
