Leucauge venusta

Southwest, Georgia

This spider, also known as European Garden Spider, is an invasive species. I photographed this one outside on our deck, making a meal of a moth caught in its web.

Mangora sp. Rock Creek Park, Washington, DC, USA

Let me start off by saying that this picture totally creeps me out!!!! I am not a big fan of spiders, especially ones that are so freakin' big!!

This is a female Golden Silk Orbweaver and the web that she has made is huge. When the sunlight hits the web, it actually looks gold. These spiders are not poisonous. In fact, I ran into some people who told me stories about when they were kids and used to catch these spiders and play with them.

We found this spider as we were walking through the mangroves to Gold Rock Beach in Freeport, Bahamas.

Unknown spider found on washroom of Bay Shore Park Campground. Any feedback is greatly appreciated for identification.

There are adult male orbweavers turning up in the strangest places as they head off to find a mate.

Have any idea what she is? She looks like an Orchard Orbweaver (Leucauge venusta) to me. However, she may be to big for that species. She was about 1/2 inch long.

I nicknamed her "Gatorade Spider" for her bright green and orange coloring.

See the next picture for the backside.

Larinioides cornutus, I think! Comment if you know.

I love searching for spiders but find many of them a challenge to identify. I have some guides but even then I will have to beg Bugguide for help.

With a little friend

She hangs out in her web only at night. I've seen her every night after dark, but never during the day. Photographed in my garden, Wallaceburg, Ontario.

I think it was trying to give me the evil eye(s). I destroyed it web looking at some hornworms with wasp larvae ... I was a little annoyed with myself for missing it and destroying its home.

Been after this little one for a few days. She finally settled into a spot I could capture.
