A female Lattice Orbweaver, Araneus thaddeus. Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge, Delaware. October 1, 2017.
I spotted this young orb weaver spider in my crepe myrtle bush out front tonight. They spin the web at night and eat it in the morning and they hide while the sun is out. They weave the classic web, the spider in Charlotte's Web by E.B. White was and Orb Weaver Spider.
I am going back out with my Canon and see if I can get a better photo, one not so over exposed - I love orb weaver spiders.
With a second helping ready nearby. Seen this morning along main trail not far from the west end of the Miccosukee Greenway.
I am leaning toward the humpbacked orbweaver (Eustala anastera). They have various colors, but some are camouflaged to blend in well with lichens, like this one! There is also the giant lichen orbweaver, and I have to think about that.
Focus stacked with help from the 'ol Helicon Fb tube.
Went on a hike in the woods a couple days ago now that the autumn weather is in full effect. Found lots of great leaves (like the one I posted yesterday) but also came across a lot of spiders. This is a Marbled Orbweaver (Araneus marmoreus) and they are quite common to the US and Canada. This one was on a large web but retreated to a curled up leaf when we startled it. It allowed me to get very close with the macro, of course, it didn't exactly have anywhere else to run.
