Found in our still-producing okra patch in the backyard with the fence as a backdrop. So tiny! It was windy, too. Houston, Texas. HA 28!

Macracantha hasselti, Araneidae

BWI Bike Trail - Sept 14, 2021

This female spider is about 8mm across. The male is much smaller. Russ Pitman Park, Bellaire, Texas, USA.

Neoscona domiciliorum - Spotted Orbweaver between two grass seed heads. Arachtober 28th.

Post-Hurricane Irma - In the Back Field

One smart spider that is living next to my deck light :) Basilica Orbweaver (Mecynogea lemniscata).

Arboreal Orbweaver (Neoscona crucifera).

Nuctenea umbratica wrapping up a solitary bee (I think). Holywater Meadows, Bury St Edmunds, UK.

Arrow-shaped Micrathena, Micrathena sagittata. My favorite spider of the year. I already posted my best shot to Flickr (and it made Explore), but here are a few other angles of it. Spring Mill State Park, Southern Indiana, USA.

"Small", not "tiny", and not as big as I often see them, but still with this recognizably orbweaver form. This one was hanging around near the cabin we stayed in in Kuranda. I like its orange color and pattern.

One that was down ay eye level.....

Cross-eye stereogram. There are some anomalies where spiders moved and I tried to repair them

Cribellate orbweaver, Uloborus sp., in her web. These spiders are not closely related to orbweavers in the family Araneidae. These spin fluffy trapping threads, not sticky ones, and the spiders themselves lack venom glands. Estero Llano Grande State Park, Texas, USA, November 10, 2021.

Orchard Orbweaver is a most beautiful spider,

one of my favorites to see.

orbweaver. Araneidae

Lit with flash and shoot-through umbrella at night

The only spider I found up on the high slopes.

I went out to take pictures of wild flowers for the upcoming Mother's Day but all I got was this - a trashline orbweaver spider. The odd shaped spider stood up and stretched for just a moment. But otherwise it was tightly curled up as if part of the trashline made of dead insect parts and other sundry items. This camouflage supposedly helps the spider catch more prey.

Shaver Park, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Spider #12 for me this year.

Might be a Araneus diadematus - Cross Orbweaver.

Photographed at my home.

Gasteracantha hasseltii. Araneidae

This Cross Orbweaver Spider was hanging out in a dark corner on my back deck. I was able to take several hand held flash photos before the bright lights sufficiently annoyed it to the point of retreat to an even darker corner. This was taken at a 1:1 ratio and edited in Nik's Dfine and Color Efex Pro.

Its a challenge to focus on an entire spider web at an angle. It was also a bit breezy but the sun was good. Good old F8.
