Possibly a White-faced Meadowhawk dragonfly male (Sympetrum obtrusum), but one of my identification guides says that members of this species don't have amber patches at the wing bases, which these (both male and female) did. On the other hand another book states White-faced Meadowhawks may have some "orange suffusion" at the wing base, so maybe that's it...

After an eighteen year developement the DS was unveiled at the 1955 Paris Motorshow, styled by Italian sculptor and industrial designer Flaminio Bertoni it had an aerodynamic body design and innovative technology, including hydro pneumatic self levelling suspension. Initially deemed expensive the DS was joined by a cheaper less technical ID model in 1957. The DS was third in the 1999 Car of the Century and during it's twenty year production sold nearly 1.5 million.
In 1962 the DS received a more streamlined nose to increase the aerodynamic efficiency, still retaining the the round head lights.
In 1967 a second restyle brought in the streamlined covered lights on this example. The design had a pair of lights under each cover, the inner set swivelled with the steering wheel to allow drivers to see hazards on turns, this was not allowed in the USA at the time so a version with four exposed fixed head lamps was made for the US market.
In 1965 a luxury upgrade, the DS Pallas (after Greek goddess Pallas), was introduced. This included comfort features such as better noise insulation, a more luxurious (and optional leather) upholstery and external trim embellishments. From 1966 the Pallas model received a driver's seat with height adjustment.

Optional Bus XPG 201T is seen operating in Leeds, still in the Mercury FM overall advert livery in which it arrived from London & Country. It is a Leyland Atlantean AN68A/1R with Roe bodywork, new in 1979 as London Country Bus Services AN201.
It was later acquired by Yorkshire Rider (no. 6462) and allocated to the Quickstep fleet, later moving to Rider York.

Despite smaller and more advanced defence platforms such as the Tursiops and Delphinapterus being developed, the decades old Orcinus gunboats remain the primary long range patrol and attack craft within IBN fleets.
Two pilots are able to go out on extended patrols for up to two weeks. The cramped accommodation within the rear cabin provide only the most basic amenities, and as a result, Orcinus pilots are colloquially referred to as "Gemini Jockeys". But the two pilots are able to rotate piloting shifts and when in battle, the secondary pilot can act as gunner and sensor officer from the rear terminal.
Most targeting, sensor and jamming systems have been upgraded over time leaving the exterior of most of the frontline units a hodge-podge of sensor blisters and radomes. So although most ships are a good decade older than their pilots, they are still highly capable to take on more advanced enemy craft.
Robust and reliable 2nd generation fusion reactors power the dual main engine nozzles and multiple reaction control thrusters. More efficient power and propulsion systems have since been developed, but the tried and tested technology allows for easy field maintainability in remote forward operating bases.
The dual sHV17 Goalkeepers function adequately in both anti-missile defence, as well as, close quarters ship-to-ship combat. Veteran pilots like nothing more than to hide close to abandoned station complexes when on anti-piracy patrol and surprising enemy ships while they are busy with docking procedures. The Pilum armament is a rudimentary kinetic penetrator, powered by a high maneuverability rocket engine. However, the Block V systems feature the added benefit of the 'Maelstrom' secondary attack function. If the projectile is estimated to miss the target, or there is a a high probability of intercept by CIWS it will take a more erratic flight path to confuse the targeting systems and then the outer shroud will detonate sending a barrage of high velocity small projectiles towards the target. It certainly does not do as much damage as the full penetrator, but it typically is enough to disrupt and disable sensor and defensive systems allowing for further Pilums to be launched in order to eliminate the target...also useful when only wanting to disable an enemy ship to allow for boarding. The Peregrine missile is typically only outfitted when units are likely to meet capital ships, or when operating in a station assault role.

I knew of this car long before I was in to flickr, rare vehicles or sharing such things. Then of course, once I was aware of it, it disappeared and I thought it gone the way of the scrappage scheme. I spotted it last night and got up early to return and capture it. Seems like it is hanging in there but you kind of feel there is a whole heap of rust ready to get out. I don't think I would begrudge it though, this car is nearly 30 years old and is clearly providing reliable to service to one owner.
I wondered if it might have been a 1.3 base model - I always felt sure some of the real base models did without head restraints and kept very basic bucket seats. Of course, this could be my memory playing tricks on me.

Back in the summer of 2005, Calgary had an invasion of Painted Lady butterflies, which happens every 10 years or so. Australia and Antarctica are the only continents that Painted Ladies do not live on. This summer (2017), we are seeing a few of these beautiful butterflies again - lovely to see them. This individual was seen yesterday, 6 August, on Rod Handfield's land - couldn't catch it out in the open.
Anyway, today, 7 August 2017, is the last day of a 3-day weekend. Heritage Day is celebrated in Alberta on the first Monday of August each year. Although it is not a statutory holiday, many Canadians in Alberta use this day as an optional holiday for celebrating the province’s heritage. I would imagine the roads and parks will be absolutely packed with people, the thought of which is more than enough to keep me home today. Apparently, Waterton Lakes National Park had to close its gates yesterday for the first time EVER, there were so many people.
Yesterday, I was out much of the day and so I feel like staying home anyway. A few of us were invited to return to one of our absolute favourite places - Rod Handfield's acreage, SW of the city. This is always such a treat, and Rod and his wife are always so welcoming. They have an amazing forest that is usually full of so many fungi species in August. However, we knew that this was not going to be the case yesterday, as everywhere is bone dry. While in the forest, our leader said that normally, we would have seen 75+ species of fungus by then. Instead, we saw maybe three very small mushrooms that I didn't even bother to photograph, plus the little cluster of Oyster mushrooms that I posted this morning. I don't know if the situation is likely to change, even if we got a lot of rain in the next little while (none in the next week's forecast). Can someone do a rain dance for us ... please?
Our morning hike was still very enjoyable, of course, and in pleasant weather and with good friends. There was a bit of smoke haze from the ongoing wildfires in British Columbia and Alberta.
After the hike, seven of us went for lunch in the tiny strip mall in the hamlet of Priddis, on the way home. Friends had said how good the food is at Jane's Cafe, and we agreed. Made a lovely end to our botany morning.

I love this fabric so much I wanted to use as much as possible. So I turned my spring ruffle top into a sundress! Here is what I did: I made the length 26" rather than 20" as described in the tutorial. I did the optional waist shaping, trying to taper out to the full width at the fullest part of my hips. The finished width of the band of trim at the bottom is about 2.5." Other than that, I just followed the directions!
