Dave developed an eye problem two evenings ago, and our local optician was off sick. Having already delayed by a day, we decided to go to the Sussex Eye Clinic, which takes "drop-ins".

I dropped him off, and drove down to the Marina to shop, wander and wait.

I love how waves all seem to have personalities.

His problem isn't serious, but it was good that we went, as it could have been.

Treasure Hunt 72: Wave

i thought i was being wimpy & left town early to race the storm warnings home — and it turns out my optician would have been delayed this morning, anyway — so, the right decision after all!! and heading north with a good tailwind…

....in the ancient port of Acciairoli in southern Italy.

I had an opticians appointment today so despite shielding I was allowed out ... and I managed a ten minute wander with a camera whilst waiting for my appointment too!

We went to wedding recently and jugs of lovely water were on the tables!

I went to the optician, and it seems that the only problem I have is that of Dry Eye, so I have drops and a heat pad to use. However, I still can't see terribly well, so I am restricting my screen time for a while to see if that will help.

I do have another problem though - Lightroom seems to be unable to find any of my images, so I am now restricted to using my phone for uploads!! Isn't life a hoot?

People sometimes say that us photographers are a self-centred lot. Aloof, disinterested, absorbed in other worlds and always looking for places to escape from everyone else are the kind of accusations that get levelled at us at times. So when one of the party (an optician by the way) manages to lose a contact lens and render himself half blind as the dusk gathers around us on a remote hillside you'd expect the others to refuse to lead him to safety until enough traffic had filled the Glencoe pass to provide an unbroken stream of light over the course of a 157 second long exposure wouldn't you? Well that's good, so you're not going to be disappointed then.

I'm not sure which one of us had cooked up the idea of hanging around on a lofty crag on a freezing cold evening when the award winning Clachaig Inn, barely a mile distant was open with its offer of warm hoppy fluids and hearty portions of game pie and chips. But the rest of the party nodded in agreement and waited for the light to fade. You may have seen from my previous post that we decided to make what we could of the oranges and yellows that filled the south western sky while we awaited the blue hour, trying to make sympathetic noises in the direction of our stricken comrade while at the same time cursing his very existence. For a time we all scrabbled around on the ground, looking for a tiny piece of clear silicone that would be barely visible at the best of times, whilst repeatedly glancing along the glen to see whether the sky was doing anything interesting. In time it did, and many exposures later I finally got that light trail all the way down to the shores of Loch Achtriochtan or thereabouts. What I find most interesting in retrospect is that there was still a yellow glow in the distance, despite it being dark enough catch the lights of the cars in a long exposure.

It goes without saying that we never found the contact lens, and we had to lead him down off the hillside in the darkness, much in the way that James Garner once did with Donald Pleasance in a famous film scene. Once he'd found the spare glasses that he'd left in the rental car and checked that his own collection of RAW files had made it through quality control we wasted rather less time in reminding him that it was his turn to buy the first round.

In a shop window which was obviously an opticians, in Christchurch. I cannot get out and about to shoot for this challenge as I have pneumonia, this is as close as I can get to having a multitudes photo for now.

I see the world differently than non-photographers... this reflection in the window of an optician in Örebro made me wonder about how accurate my 'vision' actually is.

At the 6th Elmshorn Music Night there was live music in various shops.

At Optician Schönberg I experienced Igor Landy with his great voice. You don't need glasses to discover his talent. His music goes into the heart, soul and legs. In addition to many cover songs, he also had his own compositions with him, e.g.

I was pleased to see that this optician on Saint John's Wood High Street was still in business but much saddened that so many of the shops that closed during the pandemic were still closed

The mine Ramsbeck is an ore mining museum and a visitor's mine in Sauerland (Ramsbeck, municipality of Bestwig).

In the visitor's mine one can find out about the dismantling of lead and zinc in the original tunnel.

With the original pit road the visitors 1.5 km are driven in the mountain.

Then 300 m in underground tell experienced miners in old tunnel about her former work.

that's a nice topic for me because my son owns an optician shop

EYEGLASSES is the topic for Friday, February 28, 2020, Group Our Daily Challenge

The shop County Cameras,Chingford,London E4, shut circa 2012. The sign on the side reads - 'Wellsted Opticians' in red & in black, 'Cameras and Photographic Supplies.'

Unsure if Wellsted also sold camera equipment, or that County Cameras had a sign painted over the original.

Well after an optician visit a quick look round Bookham Churchyard resulted in this shot , a rather late shot of the church door keyhole and the already posted Wyvern shot . As for this grave/tomb , time is taking it's toll and is very much being swallowed up by the foliage and is and has been fenced off for some time . I do not know who is actually buried here I am afraid , I have noted a number of tombs to the Grevilles who were local to the area living at the now National Trust Property that is Polesden Lacey .

I first prepared this as a mono shot but then changed my mind and went back to colour , you can choose which you prefer !!

Was lining this shot up on an empty shop, and just as I was thinking what it really needed was someone in it. Then up popped the shopkeeper and sat down, with his head smack bang in the centre of all the lines of perspective.

The Music Hall opened to the public on May 10, 1901, just nine days after the opening of the Library. Andrew Carnegie was accompanied by noted educator, astronomer, and optician John A. Brashear at the official dedication of the Free Library and Music Hall on April 22, 1902.

The Music Hall, which includes a balcony level, has an 800 seat capacity. The hall still has the original Mahogany seats, which include a wire frame directly under the seat for a gentleman to store his top hat during a performance.

Still a vibrant location for stage shows, the Carnegie Music Hall continues to be one of Pittsburgh's premier settings for intimate musical and cultural performances.6

Had to pop into Meadowhall Centre in Sheffield the other day for an opticians appointment and started to hear the sounds of a Jazz Band! Discovered the music was coming from this live performance by a local band who were playing in the HMV shop just a few doors away. They weren’t exactly wild but were ‘fenced off’ by the railings. Quite mellow music.

Hạ Long Bay (Vịnh Hạ Long, literally: "descending dragon bay") is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and popular travel destination in Quảng Ninh Province, Vietnam. Administratively, the bay belongs to Hạ Long City, Cẩm Phả town, and is a part of Vân Đồn District. The bay features thousands of limestone karsts and isles in various shapes and sizes. Hạ Long Bay is a center of a larger zone which includes Bái Tử Long Bay to the northeast, and Cát Bà Island to the southwest. These larger zones share a similar geological, geographical, geomorphological, climate and cultural characters.

Hạ Long Bay has an area of around 1,553 km2, including 1,960–2,000 islets, most of which are limestone. The core of the bay has an area of 334 km2 with a high density of 775 islets. The limestone in this bay has gone through 500 million years of formation in different conditions and environments. The evolution of the karst in this bay has taken 20 million years under the impact of the tropical wet climate.

The geo-diversity of the environment in the area has created biodiversity, including a tropical evergreen biosystem, oceanic and sea shore biosystem. Hạ Long Bay is home to 14 endemic floral species and 60 endemic faunal species.

Historical research surveys have shown the presence of prehistorical human beings in this area tens of thousands years ago. The successive ancient cultures are the Soi Nhụ culture around 18,000–7000 BC, the Cái Bèo culture 7000–5000 BC and the Hạ Long culture 5,000–3,500 years ago.

Hạ Long Bay also marked important events in the history of Vietnam with many artifacts found in Bài Thơ Mount, Đầu Gỗ Cave, Bãi Cháy.

500 years ago, Nguyễn Trãi praised the beauty of Hạ Long Bay in his verse Lộ nhập Vân Đồn, in which he called it "rock wonder in the sky". In 1962, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of North Vietnam listed Hạ Long Bay in the National Relics and Landscapes publication. In 1994, the core zone of Hạ Long Bay was listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site according to criterion vii, and listed for a second time according to criterion viii.

"megx" is my hero. He started as a wild graffiti artist and now makes a living from doing commercial murals. Here you see some advertisement for the shop of optician / optometrist Pieper. To get a more complete idea what "megx" (Martin Heuwold in real life) does see his homepage:

This Soviet Memorial was erected in 1945, within a few months of the capture of the city. Early photographs show the memorial standing in a wilderness of ruins, the Tiergarten having been destroyed by incendiary bombs and then stripped of timber for firewood during the last months of the war. Today, it is surrounded by the extensive woodlands of the reconstituted Tiergarten. Although the memorial stood in the British sector of Berlin, its construction was supported by all the Allied powers. Throughout the Cold War, Soviet Guards were present at the memorial, sent out and changed regularly by Soviet occupying forces in the Soviet sector.
