The contrast of smooth verses texture is hard to look at here. You've placed the tree to be the focus, but it doesn't contain both elements so it doesn't quite work. You've got a decent compositional idea here, you just need to find a good subject for the focus.
Which is is pretty dead-on, but I think the real reason this falls short of its potential is the low contrast between the lower half of the tree and its background.
