Pictures of local "wide open spaces". Not great layouts, but they serve to show the vast emptiness in southeast New Mexico -- and the need for extremely large pastures to graze cattle or horses.

Our next astronomy Star Party is this Saturday, June 16th at Palo Alto Foothills Park. You must enter the park by 8:30pm. Palo Alto residents and their accompanied guests. Peninsula Astronomical Society provide telescopes and knowledge. #PaloAlto via Instagram ift.tt/2y9dNPd

Please join us to do some citizen science this Sunday 1/13 at 11am as we survey Byxbee Park, a former landfill, as it becomes repopulated by plants and animals and birds and insects and other wildlife, especially since we have a new environmental artwork (Forage Island) made to attract those critters. What we'd like to do is survey Byxbee to see what's there now, and then over time see how well the Forage Island artwork and the vegetation islands are working to attract wildlife and spread native plants. All observations will be uploaded to iNaturalist app (see iNaturalist.org). We especially want to invite citizen scientists of all ages and sizes who are interested in bugs, in spiders, in birds, in plants, in lizards, in raptors ... We go rain or shine. See the link in the bio for more info and to sign up. See you there! via Instagram bit.ly/2QCNZPb

It's not really a barn anymore, but I liked the look of the old wood.

Edited in Aperture.

For most, Fall means the changing of colors, cooler, cozier weather, and, of course, pumpkin spice lattes. For us here at Foothills Park, spotting a Hairy Tarantula is one of the best ways to kick off the new season. Be on the lookout for these while you're visiting the park; you might see a male crossing a path or road in search of a mate. 🍂❤️️️❤️🍁 via Instagram ift.tt/2wCce6f
