History: Designed and built by Scarano Boat Inc. in Albany, N.Y., the America 2.0 had big shoes to fill. Its 1995 predecessor, the 139-foot America (now berthed in Santa Barbara) won the hearts and minds of many islanders on and off the docks. That ship replicated the original America, a 101-foot sailing vessel that won an 1851 race against 15 yachts of the Royal Yacht Squadron in what would become known forever as the "America's Cup" in honor of that ship. The 1851 original America ended up a blockade-runner for the Confederacy and after the Yankees seized her, became a blockade-buster for the federals. She remained government property until falling victim to a shed collapse in 1945, and with the shed was scrapped and burned.
America 2.0 (105 feet) replaced the 1995 replica schooner America (139 feet). The '95 replica is now berthed in Santa Barbara, California
The America 2.0, the Adirondack III, the Western Union, the Appledore and other tall ships are credited with helping keep
Key West's maritime traditions alive for years to come.

My first pygmy sperm whale in my life!!! for a looong years that i tried to see them...was today :-D
I can tell you that is extremely rare to see this litle guys (with 3 meters long) and a curiosity thing is that he was matting with another pygmy, this one from the pic was breaching all happy...with his penis off!lol

My friends invited me for a sunset sail. I wasn’t sure if we would get any good sunset, considering how hazy and overcast the west sky had been all day. But I certainly welcomed the opportunity. We met at the MDR marina where his boat was parked, and we were ready to go in less than 20 minutes. As leaving the marina and sailing out into the open ocean, we noticed that the thick layer of clouds that covered the sky was clearing up above the Santa Monica Mountains. As the sun appeared in the opening, everything turned gold. When the sun dropped behind the mountains, the sky that had been smeared in gold started glowing orange and then red. As if somebody set it on fire, the flames started spreading across the sky like crazy.
Hammerhead shark encounter in the open ocean 12 miles off of the southern tip of Baja @ 120 ft.
This was my first experience diving in the deep blue ocean with no visible bottom and a lot of water above and below me. About 5 minutes into the dive, a school of Hammerhead Sharks (Sphyrna lewini) appeared out of the abyss. There were about 100 of them, each 5 to 8 feet long. The hammerheads never came closer than about 40-50 feet away and at no time did I have any fear of this notably non-aggressive shark species. They circled us once; quickly determining that we weren't something worth eating, and then vanished back into the deep blue.
Not a great shark photo, but it shows how one large hammerhead appeared from the diver's perspective. This one lingered after most of the others had moved on - Gordo Banks, Sea of Cortez, B.C.S., Mexico

After going about 12 miles straight out into the open ocean off the southern tip of Baja, our group of 7 divers dove down to 110 to 120 feet beneath the waves on the first of 2 "blue water" deep dives. This was my first experience diving in the deep blue ocean with no visible bottom and a lot of water above and below me. About 5 minutes into the dive, a school of Hammerhead Sharks (Sphyrna lewini) appeared out of the abyss. There were about 100 of them, each 5 to 8 feet long. The hammerheads never came closer than about 40 feet away and at no time did I have any fear of this notably non-aggressive shark species. They circled us once; quickly determining that we weren't something worth eating, and then vanished back into the deep blue - Gordo Banks, Sea of Cortez, B.C.S., Mexico

In a article of a magazine, " Lipodes vexillifer (Beiji dolphin) just said goodbye from this world forever.Its the biggest extinction from a great mammal since 1950."
Man is on earth for 2 millions years and this extinct specie was already 20 millions of years before here...so lets stop and think a litle and hope this is just a "warning" from our mother,the planet earth...
Giant pyrosome. Over the years i've noticed that the pyrosome is a hollow tube facilitating filter-feeding, The egg-mass of the diamondback squid however is a solid gel.
I thought this 6ft long Green Moray would be a nice spooky Halloween pic....especially the shadow! This one has a tiny Cleaning Goby on his head, the nictating membrane over his eyes are closed because a couple other divers stirred up a little silt and the sand particles were drifting down from above.

A prolific and reliably seen nudibranch, I am always greeted by them on my dives. They range in size from quite small to large. They have a tendenc to hold on with the caudal section (rear end) of their body and try to climb/find purchase with their rostral end (front part). This one was spotted on the way to the exit after 95 minutes at depth with 500psi, which any diver knows is when you see the best creatures!

In stormy weather, Great Skuas are frequently observed closer to the British coast than usual, driven landward by high winds and turbulent seas. Their dark, broad wings and distinctive white wing flashes make them stand out against storm-gray skies. Storms can temporarily disrupt their feeding patterns, pushing them into more sheltered inshore waters or near headlands where seabird activity remains high. Despite the chaos, these birds display remarkable resilience, using their strength and agility to ride the gale, a testament to their dominance as apex aerial predators of the northern oceans.

Our goal was to see schools of pelagic fish species and we were immediately rewarded by this sighting of a large school of Black Skipjack, a member of the tuna family. These fish range in size from 12 to 30 inches and at maturity can weigh over 20 lbs. My dive buddy, Barbara, shows how we were weightlessly suspended in the deep blue void - Gordo Banks, Sea of Cortez, B.C.S., Mexico
