Nodame Cantabile was serialized in a monthly magazine for women between 2001 and 2010. The story revolves around a gifted pianist Nodame who is unaware of her own talent and Chiaki who aspires to become a world-renowned conductor as well as their relationships with other unique musicians. The work has successfully removed the formalities of classical music, thereby causing the “Nodame phenomena” in Japan where classical music CDs recorded unprecedented sales and the number of children taking piano lessons increased. The work is based on a thorough research of music universities and the classical music scene, which has attracted fans including many actual musicians.

The World God Only Knows started as a series for a weekly manga magazine in 2008. Katsuragi Keima is a god in the world of love simulation games (gal games), who is deeply attached to girls in the world of games, and downright disappointed with the real world. Essentially a love comedy but on the meta-level, this work portrays contemporary situations such as the relationship between fantasy and real life in manga, the reality of characters, the concept of “moe” and the boom of love simulation games, and thereby embraces complex forms of manga expression and themes that have surfaced since the 2000s.

Reverb

September 12, 2011 – April 3, 2012

Reverb takes off from notions having to do with resonance, registration, and audible impressions. It brings together sound-based work from artists such as Eric Ambata, Kawayan de Guia, Tad Ermitaño, IC Jaucian, Diokno Pasilan, Ronald Tomas, the collaborative, E.X.I.S.T. (Experimentation in Sound Art Tradition), and UP College of Music ethnomusicologist Dr. Christine Muyco. In responding to Lopez Museum’s open call for sound-based proposals last year, these artists will be showing an amalgam of old and new works drawn up from the ambient and self-produced, the installative and site-specific, the found and the overlooked, alongside objects from the museum collection that invoke hearing and an overall sharpening of the experiential aspect of encountering art.

Activities:

Sept 24, 1 pm, SM Mall of Asia

Sound artists who are member of E.X.I.S.T (Experimentation in Sound Art Tradition) Gentle Universe, Caliph8, Mannet Villariba, Elemento & Toshiyuki Seido will give a two-hour performance that introduces audience to the idea of sound art situated in physical space.

About the Artists:

Tad Ermitaño studied Biology at the University of Hiroshima, and holds a Bachelor`s degree in Philosophy from the University of the Philippines. He trained in film and video at the Mowelfund Film Institute and currently designs and mixes sound for digital features and produces video for projection in a variety of stage/concert contexts. His facility with a broad range technologies has led to his exploration of computers, programming, and electronics to manipulate sound and video in real time. He also performs audiovisual pieces, both solo and as part of the experimental media group The Children of Cathode Ray.

Elektrokunst video installation at Dreetz & Firchau Elektroladen

In our daily life we live surrounded by invisible walls. Walls made by ourselves with beliefs, prejudices, past experiences, public opinion, ... Walls that can be crossed only by imagination.

Through a daily electronic apparatus (TV) and a common mirror elmur.net has transformed the shop window of Dreetz Firchau & Appliances into a magical wall. A wall that suggests that we look at ourselves through the eyes of creative people from different cultures.

elmur.net "ElectroKunst" video installation is a wall that opens the door into the world of fantasy and creativity.

Who are you? Where are you? What are you doing here?
