Ice&snow by Rien Poortvliet
-------------------------
"These are turbulent times in 1566. Wandering through history, Rien Poortvliet brings daily life in the low countries/ The Netherlands/ to life"
Most of my recent shooting has been inside, due to the abundance of ice and snow in the area. Conditions are so bad in the woods, and peoples' yards, that deer have taken to walking down the middle of streets in small herds. It's almost impossible to walk on the snow and ice, so it's understandable. I have a bunch of coloured pencils that I've collected as props over the years. These are some of them. A little colour for the long winter.
Our Daily Challenge-On The Table
I haven't made a cake in ages. This one has lots of orange juice and zest in it. Even Stu liked it and he's not a cake person.
The Flickr Lounge-Macro
This is one of the little flower ornaments that I use with my dummy furniture.
Everything that I came up for this theme... xD
This is the last photo for this photo challenge. Another year full of photos... :)
To be honest, this time I had major difficulties to be creative. Maybe because this year was so difficult... I missed my creativity almost during the whole project. Most photos were taken in a hurry and I had hard times to come up with good ideas. When I look back at all the photos, I do not feel satisfied. They are ok, but I know that I can do much, much better.
Maybe it's time for me to take a little break from shooting or maybe just to concentrate more on taking pictures of what I think is interesting and not to fulfil another theme...
Although I did enjoy the whole experience of taking part in a project with other wonderful and creative people from all over the world! Every time when I looked at the images of other project members I was amazed by how different but also creative and beautiful all the results looked like. It was a joy to do this project with all of you! We all can be proud of our accomplishments!
I wish you all a happy, healthy and successful new year... with many, many beautiful photos! Cheers!
The Flickr Lounge-Playing With The Light
I was drinking a glass of Ozonated Water and the sun was setting and hit it and this is what I got. I thought it was so pretty.
Sliders Sunday- HSS!!!
Tonight we begin the Festival of Lights aka Chanukkah. We will be lighting our lovely Branch Menorah and celebrating with Baked Latkes and Cabbage Rolls, Baked Chicken Wings, Apple Sauce & Sour Cream and a little glass of Raspberry Wine...sounds good eh?
When we read a story, we inhabit it.
The covers of the book are like a roof and four walls.
What is to happen next will take place within the four walls of the story.
And this is possible because the story's voice makes everything its own.

We tend to celebrate light in our pictures. Understanding how light interacts with the camera is paramount to the work we do. The temperature, intensity and source of light can wield different photography effect on the same subject or scene; add ISO, aperture and speed, the camera, the lens type, focal length and filters…the combination is varied ad multi-layered and if you know how to use them all, you will come to appreciate that all lights are useful, even those surrounded by a lot of darkness.
We are guided by three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, our longing to capture in print, that which is beautiful, the constant search for the one picture, and constant barrage of new equipment and style of photography. These passions, like great winds, have blown us across the globe in search of the one and we do understand the one we do look for might be this picture right here for someone else out there.
“A concise poem about our work as stated elow
A place without being
a thought without thinking
creatively, two dimensions
suspended animation
possibly a perfect imitation
of what was then to see.
A frozen memory in synthetic colour
or black and white instead,
fantasy dreams in magazines
become imbedded inside my head.
Artistic views
surrealistic hues,
a photographer’s instinctive eye:
for he does as he pleases
up to that point he releases,
then develops a visual high.

It was a busy day in St. Thomas, today. It was the first day of the Great Lakes International Air Show, so aircraft were flying overhead all day. Then I set up the bistro table on the deck, and set up my camera with the big gun, in the house to shoot whatever came my way. What came was Blue Jays, Cardinals, Orioles (all in their baseball finery) and a host of squirrels which came in three colourings/shades. There was grey, black, and blacker. So, theoretically, 3 Shades Of Grey, I guess.
All references to Christmas aside, we experienced a very bad high wind storm last night. In addition to half my roof cap shingles blowing off, the power in much of the province of New Brunswick also went out. Fortunately it was relatively warm (warm enough to melt about 8-12 inches of snow-gone) but this morning, I had to fire up our industrial strength wood stove in the basement. On the downside (isn't there always one of those) we have had no water since we are on a well, and in order for the well to work, one needs electricity, or hydro, as we refer to it in Canada. Great term-hydro. It actually means water, and when we first came to Canada, I thought, why do they call electricity water? I'll let you figure it out. lol Power's now been out 18hrs. So, our son is bringing his generator over to see if we can salvage the food from our fridge and freezer-filled with food for the upcoming festivities. Life in New Brunswick-it's just...different.
Today is my Christmas day ... a very special day ...one of my favorite holidays.
We are celebrating Christmas for three consecutive days, beginning with Christmas Day. The Serbian Orthodox Church uses the traditional Julian Calendar, as per which Christmas Day (December 25) falls currently on January 7 of the Gregorian Calendar.
During this festive time, one is to greet another person with " Christ is Born " which should be responded to with "Truly He is Born"
P.S: Haven't I told you I love holidays !!! :)

Nice to play about with textures again. I am VERY behind with my beyond layers assignments but hope to get caught up with some next week on holiday instead of taking a siesta ;-) I also hope to get caught up with my contacts photostreams.
Also for slider Sunday HSS!
A break for the sweet moments of life ...

Been shooting a lot of green in the ole lightbox. lol Gotta get ready for March after all. This time, instead of using my clear glass chess board, I decided to use my clear glass Tic Tac Toe board. (Yeah, that's a thing. Who knew?) Gotta admit, shooting this puppy was challenging for so many reasons. This was the best of the worst.

Day 90. Wow.. Crazy stuff!
I thought I'd do something simple this morning, to make up for yesterday. I also wanted to inject some colour back into my stream, as I hate seeing several black & whites i n a row, however much I like them. So here's some OJ ;)
Today is gonna be a long day, as ever. I hate Mondays. But oh well, I'll keep smiling :) Not long to got now.
Also, I would like to know what you guys would like to see from me? Feel like you're not all as interested anymore, so any ideas of what you'd like? I can't promise anything but... yer :)
