114 Pictures in 2014 - # 99 - On the Table
Monday night we had a horrendous storm with 80+ mph winds, driving rain, tornado warnings, terrible weather. Our yard had significant damage to the vegetable garden (photo coming soon), and trees that were downed in the wind. One of the saddest parts for me was my delphiniums. I have never succeeded in growing big vibrant delphiniums, and I do love them. So this year I was ecstatic that one plant in particular was huge, with multiple beautiful flower stalks.
The wind broke them all. There was worse damage to trees, but I was so sad about the delphiniums. A day later it occurred to me to at least salvage them for a vase display. So here it is, the remnants of the flowers from my best delphinium ever (so far). It does make a lovely display, but I would rather they be on the plant in the yard!

We tend to celebrate light in our pictures. Understanding how light interacts with the camera is paramount to the work we do. The temperature, intensity and source of light can wield different photography effect on the same subject or scene; add ISO, aperture and speed, the camera, the lens type, focal length and filters…the combination is varied ad multi-layered and if you know how to use them all, you will come to appreciate that all lights are useful, even those surrounded by a lot of darkness.
We are guided by three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, our longing to capture in print, that which is beautiful, the constant search for the one picture, and constant barrage of new equipment and style of photography. These passions, like great winds, have blown us across the globe in search of the one and we do understand the one we do look for might be this picture right here for someone else out there.
“A concise poem about our work as stated elow
A place without being
a thought without thinking
creatively, two dimensions
suspended animation
possibly a perfect imitation
of what was then to see.
A frozen memory in synthetic colour
or black and white instead,
fantasy dreams in magazines
become imbedded inside my head.
Artistic views
surrealistic hues,
a photographer’s instinctive eye:
for he does as he pleases
up to that point he releases,
then develops a visual high.

Powder Blue/Almond (Diptych)
These are a few greeting cards I have. I love these two in particular. The paintings on them are lovely. The Orchid was painted by Peter McGowan and the Bunnie by Vivienne Roberts.
I like coffee. A lot. I can live without it. But why? My favorite way to brew it is in my French press. The conversation with Daniel made it even better.
I have not had the time to take photos lately. I would like to shoot on film (I have tons of fresh film in the fridge) but I'm too busy. I hate it!
Taken with Nikon D80 and M42 mount Auto-Beroflex 28mm f/2.8 lens. Adapter with backlens used. Silver reflector on camera right. Natural light from the camera left (window).

Before we visited Yamazaki Distillery, we had a lunch at a cafe in front of Yamazaki Station.
Table flowers there were so cute and we practiced to take photos of them while we were waiting for the lunch dishes. :-)
We are passionate about bringing a relaxed approach while creating beautiful, natural and vibrant images.
