Stevens-Henager College Boise gave local community members a kick start to their new year’s resolutions. The “New Year, New You!” Health Fair held on Friday, January 14, provided information on wellness and disease prevention and an insider’s look into the healthcare profession.
Many members of the community attended this inaugural event. Attendees enjoyed a variety of informational booths, activities and a variety of complimentary health screenings including an American Red Cross blood drive, cholesterol and blood pressure readings, stretching tips for desk jockeys, CPR demonstrations and a meet and greet with fire department paramedics.
In addition, the event also provided an opportunity for people interested in healthcare careers to learn more about the industry and what it takes to earn a healthcare degree. Workshops were held throughout the day, like the Career Day workshop, “Is a Healthcare Career for You?” which explained different issues in the healthcare industry. Students and staff members were on hand to talk about the schools degree programs and conduct demonstrations, and attendees could sign up to shadow alumni during the fair. “How to get your GED®” sessions were also offered.
“The theme of the fair was all about using the new year to start a ‘new you,’ which can be making a commitment to personal health or taking the first step to making your career dreams come true. We know many people are using their New Year’s resolutions to get in shape, finally earn their GED or college degree, or change their career, and we want to support that,” says says Danielle Horras, campus director at Stevens-Henager College Boise. “The booths, activities, and screenings taught people about their own personal health and provided touch points in creating a healthier lifestyle. In addition to that, our hope is that the event also provided a unique insight into different healthcare professions. There is great demand for bright, enthusiastic professionals in this high-growth industry, and Stevens-Henager College Boise can provide those interested with the skills and education they need to be successful.”
The “New Year, New You!” Health Fair could not have taken place without the generous support of many local businesses. Boise businesses that participated include: Ada County Paramedics, Ada County Sherriff’s Department, American Red Cross, Boise City Fire Department, Boise City Police Department, Central District Health, Complex Care, Davita Dialysis, Humphrys Diabetes, Idaho Association of Occupational Therapy, Idaho Athletic, Idaho Department of Labor, Idaho Imaging, Idaho PMR, Imaging Center of Idaho, NORCO, Planned Parenthood, Primary Health, Regence Blue Shield, RSS Linde, Saltzer Medical,St. Al’s Medical Center, St. Luke’s Medical Center, Terry Riley Hospitals, and YMCA.
The fair happened in conjunction with ten other events at Stevens-Henager campuses and satellite campuses in Utah (Layton, Logan, Ogden/West Haven, Provo/Orem, Salt Lake City) and their affiliates in Arizona (CollegeAmerica Flagstaff), California (California College San Diego), Colorado (CollegeAmerica Denver and Fort Collins), and Wyoming (CollegeAmerica Cheyenne).
Stevens-Henager College Boise offers degree programs as well as evening and online classes for busy students balancing work, family and other obligations. In addition to degree programs in Healthcare, students can also earn degrees in Business Administration, Graphic Arts, and Information Technology.

Online classes offer streaming videos for training, ensuring safety & security. However, your kid may not learn the moves accurately and neither gets the “real” supervision. Request the trainer to visit your home, where you have ample space for their training & exercise.

TABLETOP MAGIC Assignment Three: Watches
1/100 sec @ f/5.6 ISO 320, Flash in Softbox @ 1/128 power with 14" LED at full power double-scrimmed behind, small (very small) led light behind /under petroglyph rocks. Background red suede leather.
I tried to show the see-through mechanism of the watch by lighting from behind and under, not sure this worked as well as it could have.
Removed some scratches in post (too many to get all); also removed / toned down some of the small specular highlights.
Very difficult assignment overall... I am gaining a new level of respect for product photographers!
These are two bracelets created by myself that I will be raffling off to two lucky students in my online class this coming June on Artful Gathering 2012!
Just hanging out in the closet with my friend here. Pile of stuff because my dad is painting the livingroom, which is rather exciting :)
Look - bare legs! This is a huge deal, first day of the year I've even considered that.
Dress - Colette crepe in Lizzy house fabric, made by me.
Jacket - I'mprovd - had been looking for the perfect brown leather jacket for a while when j found this, but it was way outside my budget. Held out and it was discounted twice :D bought it as a reward for completing the online class I taught in March - even at 2/3rds off it was kind of a splurge.
Shoes - Swedish hasbeens, not so compatible with the half toe clips I have on my bike :(

“Money is my military, each dollar a soldier. I never send my money into battle unprepared and undefended.”
~ Kevin O’Leary
Although O’Leary—a Canadian author, entrepreneur and television personality—was referring to his half billion dollar fortune, his words expose the Achilles Heel of nearly every individual and organization on the planet: money.
The U.S. Army, in particular, aligns with O’Leary’s analogy. With billions of dollars dedicated to training, equipping and caring for more than a million men and women in uniform, the Army seeks competent Soldiers who can conduct its countless and complex financial transactions. Those Soldiers are often assigned to sections and even platoon-sized elements dedicated to the understanding of all things pecuniary. Compartmentalizing financial intellect offers the Army the distinct advantage of enhancing readiness through realistic training in the art of money management.
Diamond Saber is an annual training exercise devoted to teaching, mentoring and certifying Soldiers operating within the Army’s intricate financial system. Conducted in Ft. McCoy, Wis., from Aug. 14-24, 2017, the exercise drew more than 650 Soldiers from the Army’s active, Reserve and National Guard components.
“Diamond Saber prepares units to deploy overseas by exposing Soldiers to financial activities found in theater,” said U.S. Army Col. Gregory T. Hinton, commander, 336th Financial Management Support Center. “The exercise combines classroom instruction with realistic training scenarios that cover a wide variety of tasks, missions and systems.”
These financial functions range from cashing checks and exchanging funds to resolving military pay issues and documenting captured currency. Based out of Lake Charles, La., the 336th FMSC demonstrated their expertise on these and other monetary subjects by developing policies, answering questions and providing technical support for Soldiers engaged in classrooms and simulations.
“We’re the financial advisors for this exercise,” said Hilton, a native of Fairmont, W. Va. “Our role here is very similar to what we do downrange.”
While the 336th FMSC supported the operational aspects of Diamond Saber, four Soldiers from the 143d Sustainment Command (Expeditionary), a 10,000 Soldier command headquartered in Orlando, Fla., immersed themselves in the exercise’s tactical side. Their participation marked a major milestone in the exercise’s 12-year history.
“This is the first time Diamond Saber has integrated Soldiers operating at the G8 (general officer, finance) level,” said U.S. Army Capt. Steven Andrews, comptroller, 143d ESC. “Prior to the exercise, our section attended several planning sessions to help ensure Diamond Saber’s curriculum was applicable to G8 level tasks.”
These planning sessions resulted in Andrews and his fellow 143d ESC Soldiers studying in a small classroom separated from the larger lecture halls housing hundreds of Soldiers at Ft. McCoy’s Financial Management Warrior Training Center.
“The specialized class size allowed our instructors to focus on G8 related functions such as vendor contracts, purchase orders and lines of accounting,” said Andrews, a Philadelphia, Pa., native. “The coursework also taught us how to provide better guidance and improved service to our downtrace units.”
The lectures and simulations also exposed Andrews and his team to the Army’s General Fund Enterprise Business System, a financial asset and financial accounting management web application.
“GFEBS is a powerful tool,” said U.S. Army Sgt. Victor T. Rosario, budget analyst, 143d ESC. “Its numerous features make it a bit overwhelming at first, but the daily practice, thorough instruction and graded tests should give us a firm foundation for our eventual mastery of this complex program.”
“Most Reserve Soldiers have little exposure to GFEBS prior to coming to Diamond Saber,” added Andrews. “As long as we continually take advantage of opportunities to maximize our exposure to GFEBS, then we will be successful in our mission.”
While most of the 143d ESC’s counterparts live and study in the relative comfort, the 143d ESC Soldiers must retain vast stockpiles of information while working in field conditions.
“Most of the 143d ESC is engaged in a CSTX (Combat Sustainment Support Exercise),” explained Rosario, a native of St. Cloud, Fla. “Since CSTX emulates a deployed environment, we must sleep in tents and walk through rugged terrain with our weapons and field gear during our daily commutes to and from the classroom.”
For Rosario, the long days are worth the effort as Diamond Saber also provides opportunities to complete online certifications.
“NCOs (Noncommissioned Officers) in my field must complete a series of online classes before we can attend our respective NCOES (Noncommissioned Officer Education System) courses,” said Rosario. “Completing these courses is essential to promotion and career progression. I am grateful Diamond Saber’s administrators afforded us the time to earn a few certifications.”
While Diamond Saber lacks the mass maneuvers and cinematic firefights found in front line field exercises, its presence signifies the Army’s understanding that ample funding and effective fighting are equally important in winning wars.
“Soldiers must be physically, mentally and financially ready to deploy,” said Hinton, who, when not wearing the uniform, serves as the command executive officer for the 79th Theater Support Command headquartered in Los Alamitos, Calif. “If the Army Reserve expects its Soldiers to deploy anywhere in the world in less than 30 days, then our financial units and sections must be masters of our craft. Diamond Saber helps ensure our Soldiers fight and win without the crippling effects of disputed contracts, misappropriated funds and unresolved pay issues.”

The Inspiration Showcase online-class with Jennifer McGuire is just as awesome as I thought it would be, today's video was about stamping with something else than regular ink. So I pulled out the few markers that I have, and got to work! Details on my blog: stampsandinkequalsfun.blogspot.com/2011/09/more-inspirati...
Stamplistic is doing online classes during the lockdown. I decided to take one of them. We were to make two cards during the class and one on our own. I decided to do them all on my own and would up making 5 cards from the class supplies (with a couple minor additions from my stash).
I used the elements for Stamplistic card #3 to make this card. I did some Sharpie penwork and added a text block.
Add to my stash: 1 @ 5mm clear crystal, 8 @ 4 mm clear crystal, 18 @ 3mm clear crystal

This semester I have an online class with a 3-hour lecture, and this is how I've been keeping my fingers busy.
Pictured here is a variation on the Chair tiling.
I'm catching up on posting exercises from the SketchingNow Buildings online class I'm taking. I drew this on location. I did this drawing before I did the indoor exercises and it shows. I made many of the mistakes that Liz addresses in the indoor exercises. I got the angles of the roof wrong which made the proportions of the sides of the house wrong. I made the windows too large and the roof of the porch is too big. Read more about it on my course notes blog at: jblodget-buildings.blogspot.com/2016/09/lesson-2-outdoor-... .

I have been having Internet issues at the same time that I'm helping Hadley get his online class up and going. Not a good combination! Hopefully, we'll both be back on track soon and I can start to really taunt people with my leisure time!
Something she didn't predict is that this is also true for School. (Image source: www.investopedia.com/financial-edge/1112/how-to-pick-valu...)

Day 1 Homework. We were to write down the differences between making His & Hers elements on cards. Other students too are doing the same and it will be fun to see other's perspective with the same assignment.
