Just strolling around the quiet streets of this beautiful Andalucian town is a delight. The views of the surrounding countryside aren't bad either! Situated in the north-eastern corner of the Cadiz province and with a population of about 8,500, Olvera is one of the larger "pueblo blancos" (white villages) in the area with white houses, steep and narrow streets leading up to an old Arab fortress at the top of town. Close by is an impressive church, the 'Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación' (the Parish of Our Lady of the Incarnation). (HDR image) With a population of a little over 4,000, the Andalucian town of Teba lies about 60km north-west of the provincial capital, Málaga. It is a town with an extraordinary history dating famously back to the 'Battle of Teba' in 1330 a rather complicated story involving the Scottish warrior, Sir James Douglas, a close friend and lieutenant of Robert the Bruce, King of Scots. (For more information on the battle refer to: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Teba) . Regardless of its rich history, Teba enjoys a remarkable setting, high on a rocky saddle in the mountains east of Ronda. The 360 degree views from the castle ruins are quite stunning. For the bird enthusiast, there are often soaring eagles and/or vultures overhead while at the base of the village, on the banks of the 'Rio de Almargen', other birds, such as black-winged stilts, can often be spotted. October 2011 - a kilometre or so from Olvera on the road/track up to the quite beautiful 'Santuario de Nuestra Señora de Los Remedios', there is an old ruined house.
