(June 2007) Looking down onto the church of 'Parroquia de Nuestra SeƱora de la EncarnaciĆ³n' (the Parish of Our Lady of the Incarnation) from the nearby Arab castle. Olvera is a typical "pueblo blanco" (white village) situated in the north-eastern corner of the Cadiz province in Andalucia. At the tip of the "White towns route", the city of Olvera is located in the province of Cadiz, in the northwest of the SerranĆa Gaditana area, near the borders of the provinces of Seville and Malaga, on 36Āŗ56' north and 5Āŗ16' west, at a height of 643 meters above sea level and has a land surface of 194 kmĀ².
The distance between the capital and the Olvera is 139 km,. The number of inhabitants, according to the INE of 2005, is 8,585, although the number of "OlvereƱos" is possibly greater as migration to the coast (specifically to the Costa de la Luz) in search of employment where individuals decided to change their address to their place of work.
The hills surrounding Olvera are full of olive groves that provide the best extraction of olive oils in Andalusia. In fact, in the last years it has received the award of the "DenominaciĆ³n de Origen de la Sierra de CĆ”diz", which is a standard that is recognised by participants; nearby towns like Setenil, Algonodales, AlcalĆ” del Valle, Torre Al-Haquime etc. While olive groves are of great importance to the economy, the largest economic source of this colourful town is the "cooperative" and the prize "Arco Iris" of 1989 was won due to the town having the greatest number of cooperatives per inhabitant.
Of great interest within the municipality is a large colony of Andalusian griffon vultures (Gyps fulvus) to be found within the natural reserve of the "PeƱon de ZaframagĆ³n", a huge rock outcrop that is located 14 km to the northwest of the town

Just a couple of kilometres east of Olvera, on the main Jerez to Antequera road, is an old farmhouse with the ruins of an even older fortress above it. The surrounding views are wonderful. Olvera street is located in downtown, los angeles. This is a landmark that is known to be the birthplace of los angeles and holds the first house to ever be build in this city. It's a great place to experience mexican culture. It reminds me of being in Tijuana close to the border where all the street vendors sell all sorts of random things. Chinatown is a couple blocks down from there too, which is pretty convenient.

April 2019 - Above the 'Plaza de Andalusia' in the centre of Olvera is the garden of el PeĆ±Ć³n del Sagrado CorazĆ³n de JesĆŗs (the Rock of the Sacred Heart of Jesus). At the top of the rock, with arms raised is the impressive statue of Christ carved by Jose Even Navas, in 1929. Some photos taken in this attractive haven of peace and tranquility.

The Avila Adobe was built in 1818 and is the oldest surviving residence in Los Angeles. It is located in the paseo of Olvera Street and was built by Francisco Avila, a wealthy cattle rancher.

I find a graveyard can tell you a lot about a place. Here in Olvera, hilltop town, there is very little room and the ground is too rocky for internment in the soil. So if you can't go down then you must go up, the result is a multi-story graveyard. Needs must, as they say. Olvera is a small hilltop town in the Andalucian countryside between Cadiz and Granada. The population is about 8,500 with some very narrow streets. Olvera is known as a Pueblo Blanca or white village and is very prominent from all approaches. Nowadays Olvera largely survives through family cooperatives, based on agriculture, tourism and the construction industry at the coast. The views of Olvera and the surrounding countryside are spectacular, particularily grom the Arab Castle at the top of the town.

January 2013 - a beautiful winter's afternoon but with clouds stacking up in the east. The 'Via Verde', running 38km east to west between Olvera and Puerto Serrano is, arguably, one of Andalucia's prettiest 'Greenways' with plenty in the way of wildlife to see.
