The General Sherman, believed to be the largest tree on earth.

This is a final picture of the big tree in the backyard at my Grandma's house. I love this tree & I hope the new owners take care of it.

This is the 100 year old cypress found on the 17 mile drive in Pebble Beach. They charge $9.25 now to drive through their neighborhood. This is just the typical snapshot while doing the tourist thing. I did some post processing to give it a different look. It was a very overcast that day.

Britains tallest London Plane tree plaque seen at Carshalton Ponds , see photo of tree.

This old tree is very hospitable to green mosses as you can tell. In the Fall everything changes, not as green anymore. This picture was taken on the Monte Bello hiking trail, near Palo Alto, Ca, in Oct. '09.

Please view on black and large.

Here's the original version of Sonnet 43 of Elizabeth Barret Browning:

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.

I love thee to the depth and breadth and height

My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight

For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.

I love thee to the level of everyday's

Most quiet need, by sun and candlelight.

I love thee freely, as men might strive for Right;

I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise.

I love thee with the passion put to use

In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith.

I love thee with a love I seemed to lose

With my lost saints,–I love thee with the breath,

Smiles, tears, of all my life!–and, if God choose,

I shall but love thee better after death.

Northern Iran, region of Bandar Anzali...It seems to me that this old tree could be eight centuries old...but I'm not sure, I should read in my travel pocketbook...

These very old trees (100 yrs. old I think) are numbered.

...su forma deslizándose en el aire...

Often, when I hunt out these abandoned cottages, there can be seen the remains and evidence of the last owner's garden. Daffodils pop up, red bulbous rhubarb bursts out again and of course, the trees that marked out the garden, are nearly always dead or dying. All very poignant.

An old tree on the way to Orton Plantation

These trees may not be all that large, but they're surprisingly old. They're in the million acre Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, very near the area of the Ham Lake wildfire that's currently burning (May 2007).

Lee Frelich, forest ecologist with the University of Minnesota Dept. of Forest Resources, has conducted extensive research on this ecosystem. Believe it or not, he estimates these northern white-cedars to be between 500 and 1000 years old.

The main disturbances in this system are fire, wind, and insects.

Cedar is not fire resistant--its thin bark makes it vulnerable to even low-intensity fire. But these trees are on the windward side of islands, right at the water's edge. The combination of the slope position, the proximity to (cool) water, and the topography protected these trees from fire.

Their short stature makes them resistant to windthrow.

Not many insects or diseases affect northern white-cedar, and under the right conditions they can live a very long time.

I wish I had a better shot of this, but had to take what I could get passing by in a canoe.

Looking through some old photos I came across these shots of old trees in the woods close to our house. They were taken in 2006 with my old Fuji camera.

Some shots from Elspinhope Cottage, Cossarshill Farm, Ettrick Water, Selkirkshire, Scotland (CQ7W+4M Selkirk). This was a wonderful cottage we rented on a farm. Highly recommended

The Baobab Tree is also known as the tree of life, with good reason too. It is capable of providing shelter, food and water for the animal and human inhabitants of the African Savannah regions.

These lovely gnarled, twisted old trees have seen a bit of history. I must come back when they have some leaves.

Beautiful old tree at Percival Hill

One of the biggest trees in London parks. Osterley Park and House is National Trust operated park.

Beautifully maintained, the park has nice outdoor cafeteria, gift shop, local farm shop, pond and plenty of space with lots of big trees like this one.

The Bahia Honda Rail Bridge is an old railroad bridge in the lower Florida Keys connecting Bahia Honda Key with Spanish Harbor Key. It was originally part of the Overseas Railway,
