This is an old twisted Ewe Tree which for once had some real colour about it. Just liked how the fallen leaf hung on in the groove between the trunks.

Continuing our 395 adventure, we visited the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest. These are some of the oldest living organisms in the world. Many were old before the pyramids were built.

A double exposure to say "Nature girl", smiling at us from within the forest. I would have preferred a more mysterious look, w/o the smile, but we will take whatever we get. If our model thinks she is more beautiful smiling, which she is, as is everybody, then it will be a smiling photo. But then, there is always much more light in a smile. And as the saying goes, find the beautiful light and photograph whatever is in it. There you have it. My "Nature Girl" with the light in her smile.

I just love this old tree! The tree looks so peaceful in it's environment... stable.

This scene doesn't need words - just look on in wonderment.

seen in High Park, a couple of weeks ago....and posted today because of a posting by my friend contact, Gypsy Flores...of a tree seen in Corsica, where ahe recently visited...it made me wonder just how old this New World tree is.....

...showing off it's rustic belly.

i am the tree

my shadow is a year long

I can't think why I didn't put this one in my gallery when I took it. This is an old tree in the more remote 'High Park' area of Blenheim Park in Oxfordshire. Blenheim is best known for its sensational landscape gardens, but it also includes an area of ancient woodland that is a relic of the original Wychwood that once spread over Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, and Oxfordshire.

Oak trees often have a very long decline at the ends of their lives; this tree hasn't changed much in about 10 years. Whimsically I find it reminiscent of an opera singer! The shapes that one can see in it depend very much on one's stand-point and the light.

As can be seen on this day the light was very clear and I took a number of photos, so many that it was difficult to select one for the gallery. I liked the contrast in this particular image.

Old trees are an important resource in nature as they give shelter and provide a food source for a range of animals. In an unmanaged wood up to 25% of the trees may be dead.

Three Lam Tsuen Village Schools are established in 1950s but closed now.

After many months of working all hours and no time on the camera I managed to escape for an afternoon and wandered around the canal of Stondhouse known as the Frome canal.

I am never happy about trees being cut down but in this instance I do not know the full story and may never do so.

Having read the news about the petition I decided to visit Fairview to see what the fuss was about and also it was a good excuse to visit the area.

According to one local that I spoke to the City Council is planning to remove about fifty trees in order to make way for a new cycle path but a second lady explained that as the trees will be replaced by the Corpo [Dublin City Council] she was not interested in the petition.

As the planting began in 1906 some of the trees are over a hundred years old and according to the City Council officials some of the older trees are distressed because of restricted growing space and need to be felled regardless of their plans for a cycleway.

On the main Fairview road there is a large number of trees marked with yellow bands and I assume that these are the trees destined for the chop. However, according to some online accounts it is the trees along the park’s main footpath that are under threat. I think that some reports have used stock photographs of random trees in the park.

By the way the Irish Times are not in favour of the petition see: www.irishtimes.com/opinion/fairview-trees-row-shows-why-d...

For the high contrast lovers. :)

Tx, Houston. USA. I'm one not to set up a scene when it comes to taking a picture. One Houston does not have the landscape. So I try to find things interesting just long enough to hold your interest you the viewer critic. I took his picture in color and B&W. The color picture was not as interesting so I went with b&w. The end result. This leaf had no color to it. Just brown, but, I did like the shape of the leaf. So I place it up against the big tree, the sun light was prefect the shadow was prefect, so I thought what the hell. I hope you like this picture. Oh, I took this picture with a cheap cell phone.

Agathis australis - New Zealand Kauri,Kauri,Southern Kauri

Family : Araucariaceae

At between 2000 and 3000 years old Te Matua Ngahere is the 2nd Largest Agathis australis -(Southern Kauri) in New Zealand and effectively - the world, having the

biggest Kauri girth of - 16.41m and the 2nd biggest trunk volume - 208.1Cubic Metres. Compared to the tallest Kauri,it is just over half Tane Mahuta's

height - 29.9m (Trunk Height - 10.21m.)

Although not as tall as Tane Mahuta (51.5m) "Lord of the Forest", Te Matua Ngahere "Father of the Forest" is much broader and stouter.

At 208.1Cubic Metres compared to Tane Mahuta's massive volume of 244.5 cubic metres Te Matua Ngahere is second in overal size to Tane Mahuta.

Te Matua Ngahere suffered serious crown damage in 2007 after a storm.

Regretably in recent times New Zealand's iconic Agathis australis trees are in trouble from an introduced pathogenic fungus called Phytophthora - left unchecked it has the potential to wipe the species out.
