IN THE PRESENCE OF THESE TREES THERE IS ''HOLINESS''...AT LEAST THAT IS MY FEELING. I LOVE THEM.
WATERCOLOR & INK
If you could imagine a living tree as old as the pyramids of Egypt, what do you think it would look like? It would look like a bristlecone pine, Pinus longaeva, the oldest known tree species in the world.
The bristlecone pine only lives in scattered, arid mountain regions of six western states of America, but the oldest are found in the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest in the White Mountains of California. There the pines exist in an exposed, windswept, harsh environment, free of
competition from other plants and the ravages of insects and disease. The oldest bristlecones usually grow at elevations of 10,000 to 11,000 feet.
The oldest known tree is "Methuselah", which is 4,789 years old.

The fields where white with the wings of gulls
This time last September
When evening came in the afternoon
Too gently to remember
Spruce and laurel
Pine and yew
Needle, cone and splinter
Will love stay green
As the years grow few
And spring turns into winter
A face as pale as a daylight moon
Embers in the ashes
Evening lights in the afternoon
A fire behind your lashes
Spruce and laurel
Pine and yew
Needle, cone and splinter
Will love stay green
As the years grow few
And spring turns into winter
Breathe on an ember
Time in time our love
We'll lovingly remember
May to December
Limb by limb, our love
We'll lovingly dismember
Leaves that curl at the touch of frost
Fall apart in your fingers
But evergreen is the love we have
While the memory lingers
Spruce and laurel
Pine and yew
Needle, cone and splinter
Will love stay green
As the years grow few
And spring turns into winter

An old Ponderosa pine entrusted to my care. More than six feet around at the base. May it withstand the hot and dry and pest-ridden decades ahead.

She was a beauty--a gold 45 goddess for sure! A Gold 45 Goddess exalts the archetypal form of Athena--the Greek Goddess of wisdom, warfare, strategy, heroic endeavour, handicrafts and reason. A Gold 45 Goddess guards the beauty of dx4/dt=ic and embodies 45SURF's motto "Virtus, Honoris, et Actio Pro Veritas, Amor, et Bellus, (Strength, Honor, and Action for Truth, Love, and Beauty," and she stands ready to inspire and guide you along your epic, heroic journey into art and mythology. It is Athena who descends to call Telemachus to Adventure in the first book of Homer's Odyssey--to man up, find news of his true father Odysseus, and rid his home of the false suitors, and too, it is Athena who descends in the first book of Homer's Iliad, to calm the Rage of Achilles who is about to draw his sword so as to slay his commander who just seized Achilles' prize, thusly robbing Achilles of his Honor--the higher prize Achilles fought for. And now Athena descends once again, assuming the form of a Gold 45 Goddess, to inspire you along your epic journey of heroic endeavour.

Forrest fairy! Wood nymph! Dancing ballet beside an old tree and creek!
This mighty old oak survived the many storms and floods of the winter… which destroyed numerous other trees here in the south of England. I was therefore shocked to find it collapsed in a tragic heap on the north bank of the River Rother last week. With unprecedented flooding over the past few years, large swathes of the riverbank have been washed away as the river increased its width. The course of the river edged ever closer to the oak… until this year, when the soil at the tree’s roots was swept away. With nothing to anchor it on one side, the tree fell.
At Woolbeding near Midhurst, West Sussex.

A beautiful old oak tree, which looks its best at this time of year in such a tight frame. The photo was taken as if from hiding, through dense, tangled branches in the foreground that create a natural frame, guiding the eye towards the tree, which clearly captivates with its strength and majesty. Though old and marked by time, the tree still stands proudly, its bark’s texture resembling a complex mosaic woven by nature itself. I decided to name this photo "Traces of Time." I hope you like it too! :)
This stately old oak graces the Dayton Prairie on Curran Road (halfway between Sage and Spirea roads) in Bertrand Township, Berrien County, Michigan.
I instantly fell in love with this tree...the minute I laid eyes on it, I knew there was art in there...I had to do something more with it than just show it's beauty, as in the picture below!
I mirrored it and then joined it to create this fairytale image...
I have many more to come and I have been thinking of putting them in a slide show (if I can find the time), like last time so that I don't bore you with a thousand photos of trees...artistic though this tree is!
I hope you can appreciate this tree as much as I do!
Happy Wednesday everyone!
With love
Nat :)
Old trees are wonderful. They may take on many unexpected and and individual shapes... just like humans.
This very tree is rooted in Sri Lanka.
¿Cerro (Quercus cerris)?
Circonferenza tronco: circa 4.5 metri
Altezza: 5-6 metri
This oak (I think a Turkey oak) has been found by my father near the town of Spoltore (Pescara province, Abruzzo region, Italy). As you can se in the picture posted below, its trunk girth is remarkable and exceeds easily 4 meters. However as you can see a very large part of its foliage is completely missing. I don't know what happened to it. The only thing I can think of is that it broke as a consequence of bad weather with high winds (it's located in an isolated position at the edge of a field). However as you can see, the remaining branches seems to vegetate with no problem. Around I did not see any remains of its broken portion.
The picture has been slightly cropped to better balance the composition.

A picture I composed out of two exposures from this scene. One for the light parts of the sky and one for the dark parts of the tree and hill. You can also view this capture on black (see link below)
